3. Modify the AutoYaST file you will be using for the installation by adding a line similar to the following after the line with the %%agentinstall%% statement: wget 192.0.2.1:60000/hosts.txt -O /etc/hosts In place of 192.0.2.1:60000, substitute the actual IP address of your CMS and the repository web server port. This entry automatically copies your master /etc/hosts file from the CMS as part of the installation procedure. 2.
NOTE: This becomes the default action for all DL100 series servers that are discovered unless a host name file is present to override it. 3. Add a single line to the new file to specify the format of the BMC's UUID in the form UUIDFORMAT=string (no spaces), as follows: UUIDFORMAT=string where string is one of the following: • • • 4. original if the BMC firmware is lower than or equal to Version 3.10 and the system BIOS is not equal to 2008.10.10.

2.7.4 pdsh command fails for the CMS if the CMS host name is not fully qualified The CMS host name attribute in the SIM database might change between its fully qualified name (for example, venus.example.com) and its simple name (for example, venus). This might occur if the PSP components required by Insight Control for Linux are not installed or configured on the CMS. Corrective action: If the pdsh command fails for the CMS, replace the fully qualified name in the /opt/hptc/pdsh/nodes file (venus.example.
2.7.8 Might see CRITICAL or WARNING Nagios alerts for the NodeInfo service The Nagios default threshold values for total processes, user processes, and zombie processes might be too small for certain system configurations, particularly those with virtualization operating systems. If so, you will encounter CRITICAL or WARNING alerts for the NodeInfo service. Corrective action: Use the following procedure to update the default thresholds in the /opt/ hptc/nagios/etc/nagios_vars.ini file.
format "$timestamp $message" } 2.7.10 The nrg --mode analyze command fails on SLES11 SP1 with can't locate ioctl.ph message Running the nrg command with the --mode analyze option to generate an analysis of Nagios plug-ins by managed system fails and generates output resembling the following: NOTE: This output format was changed for clarity. # nrg --mode analyze Can't locate linux/ioctl.
2.9 Linux OS installation notes This section contains notes about installing operating systems on managed systems. 2.9.1 Kernel parameters required for installing x86 SLES 10 SP3 and SLES 11 on BL465c G7 and BL685c G7 servers Corrective action: To install an x86 SLES 10 SP3 or SLES 11 operating system on a BL465c G7 or a BL685c G7 server, you must supply the appropriate boot parameter in the Kernel append line text field.

The RAM disk recognizes the disk as an sda device (that is, the first registered device).
www.hp.com/go/insightsoftware/docs 2.13.1 ESX 3.x does not configure the network properly when NIC2 is used as boot NIC After installation, the ESX 3.x host cannot be accessed through the network when NIC2 is the boot NIC; NIC1 was disabled in the onboard administrator (OA). Corrective action: Use either of these methods to gain network connectivity: Method A This method updates the network configuration after installation. 1. 2. 3. 4. Connect to the console of the installed system.
# esxcfg-vswitch -l 10. Reboot the virtual host machine. Method B This method is useful for the persistent resolution of this situation. Modify the network directive in the Kickstart so that the NIC (designated as Ethernet device ethx, where eth0 is the primary NIC, eth1 is the secondary NIC, and so on). Using ESX 3.5 as an example, customize the ESX 3.5 Kickstart file (the template is located in /opt/repository/instconfig/esx035/esx035.
2.14.1 Possible hang might occur while running the uninstall.sh script The uninstall.sh script may hang while trying to remove the SIM RPMs as the result of the mxinitconfig -r command hanging; SIM must be completely stopped before Insight Control for Linux can remove the RPMs. The output of the uninstall.sh script resembles the following: # uninstall.sh ... Uninstalling HP Systems Insight Manager ... Stopping HP SIM Stopping hpsmdb Corrective action: Follow this procedure: 1.
