1 About this product HP Insight Cluster Management Utility (CMU) is HP's hyperscale cluster lifecycle management software, providing GUI-based control and display of a cluster as a single entity. HP Insight CMU enables cluster-frictionless management and cloning, and offers zoom-out displays of cluster health and performance metrics. A Linux CLI is available for script-based automation and integration with other Linux tools. 1.1 Operating system support HP Insight CMU v7.
Monitoring • All monitoring works, including the GUI. • If provisioning is not used, monitoring requires password-less ssh to be configured for the root account on all nodes. NOTE: Backup and cloning configures this automatically. Remote management • 6 All core features work. For example: ◦ single|multi broadcast ◦ pdsh with cmudiff ◦ pdcp • Power control and console access depend on non-HP hardware. HP Insight CMU supports IPMI. Otherwise, a new power interface can be configured.
2 New and changed features in this release NOTE: For more details on new and changed features, see the "HP Insight Cluster Management Utility v7.2 User Guide" available at www.hp.com/go/icmu. 2.1 Highlights • The HP Insight CMU v7.2 GUI no longer requires an X server. • HP Insight CMU v7.2 ships a 'smart terminal' which is able to propose the usual contextual menu when the cursor is positioned over an HP Insight CMU compute node name. • HP Insight CMU v7.
◦ smart terminal—Able to propose the usual contextual menu when the cursor is positioned over an HP Insight CMU compute node name. The following limitation might be encountered due to this functionality: ◦ Sessions might terminate when idle if the GUI was launched from webstart using a proxy. NOTE: You can enable the xterm functionality in the options menu of the GUI. IMPORTANT: The HP Insight CMU GUI and all provided java resources are now signed by an HP standard and official certificate.
2.7 post_node_config program added to the diskless API The post_node_config program is called after all of the configure_node programs run. The original purpose of the post_node_config program was to sychronize the NFS servers with any node-specific changes made by the configure_node programs, but any global actions that occur after the configure_node programs run can be configured here. 2.
• Add cmu_add_logical_group support for autoinstall. • Add cmu_dump_history support for querying the monitoring history data. • Add cmu_rename_archived_user_group command (popular for Hadoop users). • Add optional name parameter for cmu_del_user_group -a[name] |--archive[=name]. 2.11 Back-end improvements • Improved parallelization in cmu_scan_macs for ILOCM (Moonshot systems). • /opt/cmu/tmp is cleaned on service (re)start.
◦ CMU_CN_KEYBOARD ◦ CMU_WEB_PROXY ◦ CMU_CN_UBUNTU_SUITE ◦ CMU_CN_WIN_LANG ◦ CMU_CN_WIN_TIMEZONE ◦ CMU_CN_WIN_PWD ◦ CMU_CN_WIN_PRODUCT_KEY ◦ CMU_CN_WIN_IMAGE_METHOD ◦ CMU_CN_WIN_IMAGE_VAL ◦ CMU_CN_MAC/CMU_CN_MAC_COLON ◦ CMU_SAMBA_IMAGE_REPOSITORY • The autoinstall engine now automatically configures NFS (or Samba for Windows) exports at autoinstallation time. (Windows is only available on specific Moonshot cartridges.
3 Upgrading to v7.2 IMPORTANT: The license key format for HP Insight CMU v7.2 is changed from previous versions of HP Insight CMU. Previous license keys do not work with HP Insight CMU v7.2. Obtain new license keys before upgrading to v7.2. IMPORTANT: by running: After upgrading to HP Insight CMU v7.2, you should verify the cmuserver setup cmu_mgt_config -c NOTE: Upgrading to HP Insight CMU v7.
4 Bug fixes The following bugs are fixed in HP Insight CMU v7.2: Backup and cloning • Fix golden node backup with an fstab containing valid but commented entries, e.g. #/dev/sda4 ext3. • Fix a rare race condition on some slower hardware where the backup starts before udev creates the block device partitions. • Update all netboot environment HP tools to the latest versions. • Clean golden node specific log files (var/log/messages, dhcp leases, etc.) at cloning.
• Fix cmu_console buffering exit and quit requiring two entries of the 'e' key. • Fix cmu_custom_menu to use a CMU_TEMP_NODE_FILE keyword on a local GUI. • Fix how cmu_custom_menu handles the error stream.
5 Limitations and workarounds 5.1 LVM and Software RAID nonsupport IMPORTANT: Do not install LVM or Software RAID on the HP Insight CMU compute nodes. LVM or Software RAID on the compute nodes will cause backup or cloning to fail. TIP: LVM and Software RAID are supported on the management node. 5.2 HP iLO CM ssh/vsp connections are limited to 15 Each HP iLO CM allows up to 15 concurrent ssh/vsp sessions. To go beyond that limit, close old connections before starting new connections.
5.7 B110i RAID mode support HP Insight CMU does not support RAID arrays created by B110i RAID controllers (e.g. SL4545 G7). Any attempts to backup or clone such RAID arrays will fail. 5.8 Cloning on large-size disks failure When cloning on large-size disks (for example 750GB), the cloning process fails and displays the following: Cloning finished, 0 nodes cloned, 0 nodes finished To work around this error, edit the /opt/cmu/etc/cmuserver.
NOTE: Modify the CMU_CN_WIN_PWD variable in /opt/cmu/etc/cmuserver.conf for setting user passwords during Windows unattended autoinstall. • Cloned nodes reboot twice after first disk-boot for host-specific customizations. • GPT partition table is not supported. 5.11 Ubuntu autoinstall template modifications while using local repository For Ubuntu, uncomment the live-installer line in the Ubuntu autoinstall template file (autoinst_ubuntu_cd.templ) before creating an autoinstall logical group.
