TECHNICAL BRIEF

Policy Editor Shared Items

Within the IPSC Policy Editor, you will notice a Shared Items configuration category. The Shared Items

category is aptly named because it includes common configuration settings that can be “shared” by

multiple policy items. The two policy item groups under Shared Items are: LDAP Settings and

Outgoing Email (SMTP). See Figure 1:

The Shared Items category is aptly named because it includes common configuration settings that can be “shared” by multiple policy items. The two policy item groups under Shared Items are: LDAP Settings and Outgoing Email (SMTP).

LDAP Settings: Figure 2 shows the LDAP Settings policy item group selected and all LDAP configuration items within this item group. Once the desired configuration settings are satisfied, this specific policy item group can now be saved as a Shared Item Instance and used by any policy item that references these specific LDAP settings. In this example, LDAP 1 was saved as a Shared Item Instance and represents some specific LDAP settings.

Figure 3 shows an example of a policy item, (LDAP Server Authentication), and the referencing of the specific settings in the LDAP 1 Shared Item Instance. Figure 3 LDAP Related Policy Item Settings The policy items that can reference LDAP Settings appear in the window as Related Technology links. If any of these policy items actually reference a Shared Item Instance, an (in use) status will appear next to the policy item. See Figure 4.

Outgoing E-mail (SMTP): Outgoing E-mail (SMTP) is the other policy item group. Figure 6 shows the Outgoing E-Mail Settings and Email related configuration items within this item group.
