Successful System Cloning using Ignite-UX

This issue however is no longer relevant since HP-UX 11.0 is no longer supported. Now all
supported releases of HP-UX are installed with an install kernel that runs that revision of HP-UX.
New System Support
Now you must consider when the hardware became available from HP. If the system is relatively
new, was support provided for it with the initial release of 11i v1, or was support added with an
Operating Environment (OE) quarterly release?
Information about newly supported systems is located in the Read before Installing or Updating to
HP-UX 11i v1 and the HP-UX 11i v1 Release Notes. You should note that each OE release contains
the information related to that particular release, so you may have to review several editions of
these documents to locate the information relevant to your system.
If support was added by means of an OE quarterly release, you must determine the release in
which support was added. Once you have the release date of the given OE quarterly release, you
must determine the corresponding version of Ignite-UX that was released with that release.
To be certain of the version of Ignite-UX that was shipped with a particular OE quarterly release,
you can use swlist(1M) on the OE media and review the output to get the version information.
For example, on an rp8400 system the following OE quarterly releases added support for the
following
2
September 2002 added support to boot using Ultra160 cards
:
June 2002 added support for the faster PA8700 Central Processing Unit (CPU) (750 MHz and
875)
December 2001 added support for the PA8700 CPU (650 MHz)
First Release supported at 11i v1 with 550Mhz CPUs
Ignite-UX B.3.7.x release added support for 750 and 875Mhz CPUs
Ignite-UX B.3.6.x release added support for 650Mhz CPUs
Ignite-UX B.3.0.x initial major release added support for 550Mhz CPUs
A newer example of this is with the HP Integrity rx3600/rx6600 systems running HP-UX 11i v3.
There are multiple backplanes supported with these systems. They are a PCI-X based backplane
and a PCIe/PCI-X combo backplane. In this case the Ignite revisions are required are:
Ignite-UX C.7.1 for PCI-X backplanes (supported on 11i v3 from first release)
Ignite-UX C.7.3 for PCIe/PCI-X combo backplanes (supported with the September 2007 11i v3
OE)
So it’s not only a question of whether a system supports a version of Ignite-UX, but also if there
have been hardware changes in a system that require an updated version of Ignite-UX. Therefore,
the question “What version of Ignite-UX does an rx3600 or rx6600 need?” requires the answer,
“That depends.”
