NAME
ignite − Interactive HP-UX configuration, installation, and recovery manager
SYNOPSIS
/opt/ignite/bin/ignite [-recovery][-install][-S]
[XToolkit-Options][client1,client2,client3,...]
DESCRIPTION
The default mode of operation of the ignite command is to start the interactive user interface. If display
is specified using the DISPLAY environment variable or the -display option, an interactive X-Windows
graphical user interface (GUI) will be started. If the display is not specified an interactive terminal user
interface (TUI) will be started. When the TUI starts, a brief introduction to the interface is presented. The
GUI has some features not present in the TUI such as the ability to perform server initiated creation of a
network recovery archive. Both interfaces provide the ability to control client install initiated from the
Ignite-UX server.
The ignite command GUI and TUI provide the ability to build software configurations and use these
configurations to install HP-UX clients. In addition, note that network install, recovery, and other opera-
tions may also be controlled from the client system’s console. The ignite GUI provides the ability to
create network recovery archives. Either the GUI or TUI may be used to perform system recovery.
When the user interface starts, "Tutorial and Demo..." and "Server Setup..." choices will be displayed. The
Actions menu includes a "Run Tutorial/Server Setup..." to allow the user to perform these operations later.
These entries aid initial server setup and introduce key features of the product.
Options
The ignite command recognizes the following options:
-recovery This option causes the user interface to initiate the "Create Network Recovery
Archive" action with the first client in the option list. Once the action has com-
pleted, the user is returned to the user interface so that management of other
clients may be done in the same session.
-install This option causes the user interface to initiate the "Install Client/New Install..."
action with the first client in the option list. Once the action has completed, the
user is returned to the user interface so that management of other clients may be
done in the same session.
-S Directs ignite to use ssh based protocols instead of remsh based proto-
cols when communicating with remote systems which are already running HP-
UX for the purpose of initiating creation of recovery archives or, initiating
client reboot to start install or recovery.
XToolkit Options
The ignite command supports a subset of the standard X Toolkit options to
control the appearance of the GUI. The supported options are: -bg, -back-
ground, -fg, -foreground, -display, -name, -xrm, and -syn-
chronous. See the X(1) manual page for a definition of these options.
client1,client2,client3,...
A list of one or more clients which will be used to limit the set of clients dis-
played by the user interface. If a client is specified and its corresponding client
configuration directory (in /var/opt/ignite/clients) does not exist, a
note for each client that is missing is displayed as the user interface is started.
Clients may be named using a mixture of hostnames and MAC addresses. If no
clients are specified the user interface will include all client systems known to
the Ignite-UX server.
