HP StoreAll OS 6.5.1 Release Notes
Segment evacuation
The segment evacuator cannot evacuate segments in a READONLY, BROKEN or UNAVAILABLE state.
SMB
• When you add an ACL to the share root, the Advanced Security Settings window for the newly
created folder on the share root displays duplicate ACL entries. This occurs because two attempts
are made to set permissions on the newly created folder; once as inheritable permissions and
second as exclusive permissions on the folder. The issue does not occur with existing folders. The
duplicate entries do not cause problems except for consuming additional storage space in the
ACL repository. The duplicate ACLs on a folder are removed if new user permissions are added
to the affected folder using Windows Explorer.
• If you restart the HP-SMB server multiple times in quick succession while the Active Directory name
cache contains tens of thousands of entries, it can cause the LSASS daemon to become stuck. This
occurs when the HP-SMB server is stopped while the Active Directory name cache is still loading.
To resolve the issue, it may be necessary to stop the LSASS and IBFS processes, verify they are
no longer present, and then restart them.
• If RFC2307, which is the protocol that enables Linux static user mapping with Active Directory,
has not been configured before you enable ID mapping or LDAP ID mapping, the status of
RFC2307 will display as unprovisioned when the ibrix_cifsconfig -i command is executed.
To resolve this issue, execute the following command to enable RFC2307 and ensure its status is
reported correctly:
ibrix_cifsconfig -t -S "rfc2307_support=rfc2307"
• You can add Active Directory users and groups and LDAP users to Local Provider groups. However,
you cannot currently add LDAP groups to Local Provider Groups. HP-SMB does not enforce this
restriction. Therefore, if you attempt to add an LDAP group, it may appear that it was successful;
however, this may cause the system to become unstable.
• The maximum recommended number of CIFS/SMB shares that can be configured per StoreAll
Storage system has been increased to 200 (previously 20) when using the StoreAll OS GUI or
CLI. If you are using the Microsoft Management Console (MMC), up to 60 shares can be managed
from 2 nodes. HP does not recommend using the MMC to manage shares on systems with more
than 2 nodes.
NOTE: The MMC limit is based on client-side MMC timeouts that are beyond HP’s control. In
some environments, other factors may increase latency, which will reduce the number of shares
that can be effectively managed with MMC. If you experience errors managing a large number
of shares with MMC, HP recommends using the StoreAll OS GUI or CLI to create and modify
shares instead because the StoreAll OS does not have the same timeout issues. Be aware that the
time to complete StoreAll OS add and modify operations increases as the number of shares
increase. The amount of the delay depends on the number of shares. In testing, it took
approximately 60 seconds for a modification with 50 shares and approximately 200 seconds
for a modification with 100 shares. The recommendation to use the MMC on systems with a
maximum of 2 file serving nodes is because communication between nodes causes operations to
take longer to complete, and these timeouts are likely to be exceeded.
• Group quotas can only be applied to the Active Directory primary group of a user. The Active
Directory non-primary (secondary) groups cannot have quotas applied to them.
• The HP SMB authentication process could crash while processing authentication requests that try
to enumerate local users. This problem occurs only when local authentication mode is used and
the local user database has a group that has more than 1,500 users.
