High Availability Monitors Version A.04.00.01 Release Notes
What’s in This Version
Chapter 16
All HA Monitors can be used with enterprise system management software such as HP
OpenView.
To work with HA Monitors using the EMS GUI:
• Log on to the system as root and enter sam to open SAM. In SAM, double-click on the
Resource Management icon, and then double-click on the Event Monitoring Service icon
to invoke EMS.
• Use the EMS GUI to configure a monitoring request to warn you before a system failure.
This warning gives you time to take action to prevent application downtime.
To work with HA Monitors using the EMS CLI:
• Log on to the system as root .
• Invoke the /opt/resmon/bin/emscli command with the appropriate option at the
HP-UX command-line prompt.
Refer to the emscli(1m) manpage for more information.
To work with HA Monitors using the MC/ServiceGuard or ServiceGuard Extension for RAC:
• Log on to the system as root and enter sam. In SAM, double-click the icons to open
Volume Groups (/vg) or Databases (/rdbms).
• Through MC/ServiceGuard or ServiceGuard Extension for RAC, you can configure HA
Monitor’s resource as part of a package dependency. If the resource fails,
MC/ServiceGuard may restart the package on the local system or on an alternate system.
To configure packages in MC/ServiceGuard, refer to Managing MC/ServiceGuard manual at
http://docs.hp.com/hpux/ha/index.html.
Configuring MC/ServiceGuard EMS Resource Dependencies
In earlier versions of MC/ServiceGuard, it was possible to configure EMS resource package
dependencies via SAM in the Package Configuration subarea. Since package configuration in
SAM is not supported in MC/ServiceGuard version A.11.15.00 for HP-UX 11i v2, an alternate
procedure for configuring EMS resource package dependencies has been provided. Refer to
MC/ServiceGuard Version A.11.15.00 Release Notes on HP-UX 11i v2 in
http://docs.hp.com/hpux/ha/index.html for the alternate procedure.
