heartbeat
A signal transmitted between cluster nodes to indicate whether the nodes are operating.
high availability
A term used to identify a computer system that can continuously deliver services to its
clients.
host
The primary or controlling computer to which a storage subsystem is attached.
host bus adapter
A device that connects a host system to a SCSI bus. The host bus adapter usually performs
the lowest layers of the SCSI protocol. This function may be logically and physically
integrated into the host system.
interconnect
A physical connection between cluster nodes that transmits intracluster communication.
I/O
A term that refers to input and output functions.
IP address
Internet Protocol address. An address assigned to a network interface card, which computer
entities use to locate and communicate with each other. IP addresses can be statically or
dynamically assigned.
load balancing
See static load balancing.
local terminal
A terminal plugged into the EIA-423 maintenance port located on the front bezel of the
controller. See also maintenance terminal.
logical unit (LUN)
A physical or virtual device addressable through a target ID number. LUNs use the target bus
connection to communicate on the SCSI bus.
