R21xx-HP FlexFabric 11900 Fundamentals Configuration Guide

103
Verify that the storage media on the MPUs have enough free space for the .ipe file and the new
image files.
Use the display device command to verify that the system is operating correctly. If there is any
problem with the system, troubleshoot the system before performing an ISSU.
Use the save command to save the running configuration.
In standalone mode, use FTP or TFTP to transfer the software image files (in .bin or .ipe) to the root
directory of the active MPU's storage medium. Before the standby MPU is upgraded, the system will
prompt you to copy the files to the standby MPU.
In IRF mode, use FTP or TFTP to transfer the software image files (in .bin or .ipe) to the root directory
of the global active MPU's storage medium. Before a standby MPU of the IRF fabric is upgraded,
the system will prompt you to copy the files to the standby MPU.
ISSU restrictions and guidelines
Before an ISSU:
{ For service continuity during the upgrade, disable BFD for protocols, including LDP, RSVP, OSPF,
ISIS, RIP, BGP, VRRP, and NQA.
{ Verify that the LACP timeout interval is the long timeout interval (the lacp period short command
is not configured) on all member ports of the dynamic aggregation groups.
{ To upgrade the IRF fabric to a compatible version, configure the IRF bridge MAC address
persistence by using the irf mac-address persistent timer command or irf mac-address
persistent always command.
{ If you are upgrading the IRF fabric to an incompatible version, check the IRF bridge MAC
address. If it is the MAC address of the device for which you want to execute the issu load
command, configure the irf mac-address persistent always command before executing the issu
load command.
{ Log in to the device through the console port. If you are using Telnet or SSH, you might be
disconnected from the device before the ISSU is completed.
{ For service continuity in standalone mode, make sure the device has two MPUs and both MPUs
are operating correctly. Service disruption is unavoidable for a reboot upgrade on a
single-MPU device.
{ For service continuity in IRF mode, make sure the IRF fabric has two or more MPUs and all
MPUs are operating correctly. Service disruption is unavoidable for a reboot upgrade on a
single-MPU IRF fabric.
{ Verify that the hardware is operating correctly and is not being upgraded.
During an ISSU:
{ Do not reboot, install, or remove any card, and make sure the network topology is stable.
{ Do not execute any command that is not relevant to the ISSU process.
{ Make sure you are the only one who is logged in to the device and no other administrators will
log in during the upgrade.
{ Do not modify, delete, or rename image files.
{ The issu series configuration commands and the install series configuration commands are
mutually exclusive. You can use only one series of configuration commands for one ISSU
process. However, you can use the install series displaying and maintaining commands with
the issu series configuration commands.
