Removing deleted files from archives
If deletion is supported by your archives, routinely run the cleanup command to remove archive entries
that have been deleted from the file server. This command removes expired files and cleans up the archive.
The cleanup command can only be run through the FMA CLI command line. Use the cleanup command
carefully, as any files in the archive that does not have a file or a file stub associated with it will be deleted.
When a managed file is deleted on the file server, FMA moves metadata to the following garbage collection
log: \HSM Volume Information\$HsmGC.log. When you run the cleanup command, you specify an
expiration time for deleted files. FMA only deletes files from the archive if they were deleted prior to that
expiration period. For example, if you run the cleanup command with an expiration time of 15 days, only
files deleted from the file server more than 15 days ago are removed from the archive. The cleanup
command cleans-up the garbage collection associated with multiple copies of a file, for example
file.001 and file.002.
For information about using the cleanup command, see cleanup on page 88.
