Upgrade from a previous version
Prerequisite:
FMA 2.1.9 or later
FMA 2.2 features a new driver technology, a so-called mini-filter, to interface with the NTFS file
system. To support this new technology, the metadata storage mechanisms were changed from
"Extended Attributes" to "Alternate Data Streams". FMA has built-in support for automatic
upgrade of FMA 2.1 to FMA 2.2 metadata formats. For technical reasons, FMA 2.1 cannot
support the new format. There is currently no downgrade procedure available.
Ensure that you have appropriate backups (preferably volume snapshots) of your system and
data available before continuing with the upgrade. The only way to downgrade to 2.1 is the usage
of these backups in a fallback scenario.
