Announcements Event Monitoring Service Version A.03.00 Release Notes 1 Announcements Event Monitoring Service is a software product you can use to request notification when some resource reaches a certain level. You install an EMS monitor, then configure a monitoring request in EMS, specifying how and when you want to be notified. EMS enhances your high-availability environment by warning you before a single point of failure can stop availability.
Announcements modify, and remove monitoring requests. You can also see a list of all the monitors that EMS discovered on your system, and a list of all current configured monitoring requests. The EMS framework can be used with HP OpenView, MC/ServiceGuard, and any other software that can receive traps in the opcmsg, SNMP, TCP, or UDP protocols; or text to email, syslog, the console, or a textlog file. Users can write their own monitors, using the EMS Developers’ Kit. For more information, go to http://www.
What’s New in this Version What’s New in this Version New notification methods: Now you can receive notification through email, syslog, the console, or a textlog file. The previous notifications are still available: SNMP, opcmsg, TCP, and UDP. Asynchronous monitors: Now EMS supports asynchronous monitors. Asynchronous monitors send events as they occur, and EMS notifies you when your configured condition is met. Previously, EMS would poll to solicit status.
Required Patches and Problems Required Patches and Problems Required Software Patches • The following patches are required with EMS: • PHSS_10715 (HP-UX 10.20 and 11.0) This upgrades the SNMP master agent to version 14.x, which is required if you plan to send events using SNMP traps. After you install this patch, you need to set the following in the /etc/SnmpAgent.d/snmpd.
Required Patches and Problems The port number for the EMS registrar is listed in /etc/services. If you are running a different name lookup service, for example NIS, and it is not configured to use /etc/services as part of the name lookup process, then EMS monitors will not be able to find the registrar program and will not function.
Required Patches and Problems Note that the contents of the ems3 and ems4 lines depends on the init level declared in the first line.
