HP StorageWorks 4000/6000/8000 Enterprise Virtual Array Updating Product Software Guide XCS 5.031 (5697-5541, December 2005)

The new storage system soft ware is loade d o nto the HSV c ontrollers, and the rmware on the
associated Fibre Channel drive enclosures is upgraded.
NOTE:
For the XCS 5.031 upgrade, the drive rmware is located in a separate le. To upgrade
the drive rmware, see Up grading drive rmware and repeat step 3 through step 12 for
the drive rmware.
During the upgrade, a command in progress message is displayed.
When the upgrade process is complete, the Code Load Storage System-Page 3 opens. The HSV
controllers restart.

NOTE:
The software loads in parallel on the drive enclosures. During the software update, the
EMUs on the d rive enclosures might ash red status indicators and sound an alarm.
After the software update completes, the ashing red status indicators and alarm sound
cease. The process of updating the enclosure software continues in the background after
the controller software i s updated.
During the EMU rmware upgrade, all of the disk drives a re listed in the Unmappable
Hardware folder and all of the disk enclosure b ays disappear from the navigation tree.
The rmware upgrade can take up to 10 minutes to complete. After the upgrade has
completed, the disk enclosure bays ar e listed under the Disk Enclosure elements.
ThesoftwareloadsontheHSVcontrollers.TheHSVcontrollerssynchronizeusingthenew
software. The Scanning for disks message on the controllers' OCPs indicates that
synchronization is taking place.
14. Click Finish after the HSV controllers have restarted.
The HP Command View EVA client refreshes.
An EMU rmware update message opens.
