CAUTION:

Before upgrad

ing the system software, ensure that the storage system conﬁguration is stable and is not

being changed

in any way. If any conﬁgurations changes are in progress, monitor them using HP

Command View E

VA and wait until they are completed before proceeding with the code load.

NOTE:

HP strongly recommends that prior to upgrading to XCS 5.031 you install Instant Support Enterprise

Edition (ISEE) to verify the health of the array.

ing procedure describes an online upgrade of the storage system software. HP recommends

that you us

e this p rocedure when upgrading the storage system software.

During an o

nline upgrade, XCS is upgraded on the HSV controllers while they are receiving host I/Os.

Thecontrollersrebootatthesametime(usuallywithinhostOStimeoutperiods). Onlineupgrades

should be conducted at off-peak hours, and database and other applications with access to the storage

system should not be running.

NOTE:

Online up

grade is not supported for the following conﬁgurations. If you have host servers with these

operati

ng systems, you must perform an ofﬂine upgrade of the storage system software.

• IBM AIX hosts – On line upgrade is not supported for AIX hosts.

You can also per form an ofﬂine upgrade of the storage system software. The ofﬂine upgrade requires you

stop all host I/Os to the storage system until the upgrade is complete. The ofﬂine upgrade is described in

Step 4 of the system software upgrade procedure.
