3 Upgrading the Enterprise Virtual
Array
Upgrading from Enterprise Virtual Array involves several steps that must be done in the prescribed order.
If you do not perform the upgrade process in the appropriate order, you may not be able to manage the
Enterprise Virtual Arra y storage sy stem using HP Command View EVA.
NOTE:
• Before you can perform an online upgrade to VCS 3.028, the storage system must be running VCS
3.014 or later. Contact your HP-authorized service representative for assistance in upgrading to
VCS 3.028 from any version prior to 3.014.
• HP highly recommends that you perform this upgrade procedure during off-pea k hours. The upgrade
pr ocess may cause a fully configured HSV controller to exceed application-specifictimeoutvalues.
During the upgrade, both HSV controllers reboot at the same ti m e.
• Use the Software Version Worksheet provided to collect important information as you p erform the
procedures. See Appendix B: Software Version Worksheet.
The upgrade procedure contains the following steps:
• Step 1: Checking the health of the Enterprise Virtual Array
• Step 2: Redeeming license keys
• Step 3: Upgrading the Storage M anagement Appliance
• Step 4: Upgrading host ser vers
• Step 5: Clearing passwords on the HSV controllers
• Step 6: Upgrading HP Command View EVA
• Step 7: Loading the add-on licenses
• Step 8: Upgrading system software to XCS 5.031
• Step 9: Adding passwords to the HSV controllers (optional)
• Step 10: Installing SMI-S EVA (optional)
• Step 11: Upgrading Replication Solutions Manager (optional)
• Step 12: Migrating Network View to Storage Area Mana ger
• Step 13: Installing Storage N o de Manager (optional)
• Step 14: D isabling SNMP notification to the PRS host
Step 1: Checking the health of the Enterprise Virtual Array

Before upgrading your Enterprise Virtual Array, you should check the condition of all components. Perform
the following steps to ensure your Enterprise Virtual Array is operating normally and ready to upgrade.
1. Check the displays and status indicators on the Enterprise Virtual Array. See the HP StorageWorks
