HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array 3000/5000 updating product software guide (VCS 3.110) (5697-7959, February 2009)
1 Getting started
This chapter provides information about required kits and reference documentation. Ensure that you
have met the outlined requirements and possess all of the required materials before you begin the
installation procedures described in this guide.
Upgrade paths
You can perform an online or offline upgrade to VCS 3.110 from VCS 3.028 or VCS 3.100. If you are
upgrading to VCS 3.110 from any other version, you must contact HP Services and arrange a time for
HP Services to perform the upgrade.
VCS 3.110 replaces VCS 3.100. VCS 3.110 contains all of the features and fixes of VCS 3.100. The
only differe
nce is the removal of support for the RoHS-compliant backend loop switch (part number
30-10022-01).
Online versus offline upgrades
Online upgrade to VCS 3.110 is supported from VCS 3.028 or VCS 3.100. An online upgrade does not
require you to halt I/O or s hut down the servers acc essing the storage system. Because of the minimal
disruption to system o peration, the online procedure is recommended. It will be necessary to identify the
best time to perform the upgrade to minimize the impact on hosts and applications.
If necessary, the upgrade can be performed offline. For an offline upgrade, you must stop all host I/O to
the storage system. Stop a ll applications accessing the storage system and shut down hosts, if necessary.
