DESCRIPTION
The VCS v
4.004 system software for the EVA3000/5000 includes resolution to some issues that were
found after the release of v4.001. HP recommends that you upgrade to VCS v4 .004 if yo u are currently
running VCS v4.001. To upgrade to VCS v4.004, a copy of the system software is provided on the
CD-ROM in the HP StorageWorks EVA3000/5000 Series v4.0 Controller Media Kit.

Upgrade paths
The upgrade paths to VCS v4.004 are listed in Table 1. When upgrading to VCS v4.004, the following
conditions must be met:
• Upgrading to VCS v4.004 should only be per formed by HP service-trained personnel. Contact
HP Customer Services for assistance in upg rading the storage system to VCS v4.0 04.
• The storage system must be at VCS 3.028 or VCS v4.001 to upgrade to VCS v4.004.
• Upgrading to VCS v4.004 from VCS 3.028 must be done offline(allhostI/Ohalted).Theonline
upgra de o ption is not supported for these upgrades.

The online upgrade procedure requires a 60 second controller resynch during which the storage system is unavailable.
Applications and operating systems must be able to accommodate this interval.

ngrading from VCS v4.004 to any earlier version of VCS firmware and retaining data on the
sto
rage system is not supported. Contact your HP-authorized service representative for more information
on VCS downgrades.
