HP StorageWorks 3000/5000 Enterprise Virtual Array Release Notes (VCS 3.110) (5697-6378, August 2007)

Avoiding slow cr
eation of multiple related snapshots
To minimize imp
act of snapshot and snapclone per formance on system performance, transition cache on
source virtual disks to write-through mode using HP Command View EVA before starting the snapshot
or snapclone. The impact of creating one snapshot may be tolerable and may not require this action.
However, creation of multiple snapshots of the same virtual disk requires this action.
Avoiding controller termination during snapshot and snapclone unsharing
Under c ertain instances, a controller termination is seen when snapshots and snapclones unsharing is
in prog ress, and also, at the sam e time a full copy is in progress. To avoid a controller term ination,
snapclones should not be created of DR Group mem bers while a full copy is in progress.
Perform VCS 3.110 online upgrade during off-peak hours
When upgrading the controller software to VCS 3.110, be aware that the upgrade process can cause
system time outs. To avoid this situ ation, upgrade the software during off-peak hours with minimal
applicati
ons running.
See the HP S
torageWorks 3000/5000 Enterp rise Virtual Array updating product software guide (VCS
3.110) for
instructions.
McData Intrepid 1000 Director switch and EVA
The Mc D a ta Intrepid 1000 Director switch is not supported wh en directly connected to the EVA. It is
supported when the EVA is connected to another Director switch or an Edge switch in the fabric while the
Intrepid 1000 Dire ctor switch is also in the fabric.
VCS 3.xxx and McData 4400/4700 switches
An EVA3000/5000 that is running VCS 3.xxx may experience login problems on port 0 of McData
ES4400 or ES4700 switches. To resolve this problem, use any port other than port 0 for the EVA
connec
tion.
