Version: 3.110 Description This document contains the most recent product information for an HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array 3000/5000 running VCS 3.110. This information applies to both the EVA5000 (HSV110) and EVA3000 (HSV100) products. NOTE: Much of the information included here is not documented elsewhere, so it is recommended that you read this information thoroughly before installing and operating the EVA3000/5000. Update recommendation Recommended Enhancements VCS 3.
Fixes The following issues have been resolved in VCS 3.110: General issues • Addressed an issue where a single disk drive failure could lead to RAID1 inoperative state. • The fault detection logic on the backend that prevents unnecessary disk and port failures is enhanced. • A power cycle of a device Fibre Channel loop switch may, in some instances, lead to a failure of the connected port, leading to a Single Port on Fibre (SPOF) condition.
• An issue where an errant response from a disk drive led to a controller termination has been addressed. • An issue that led to a controller restart when code load operations were performed during HP Continuous Access EVA activity has been addressed. • An issue which caused a controller termination due to a site failover, occurring before a disk group was brought online, has been addressed.

Upgrading an Enterprise Virtual Array to VCS 3.110 VCS 3.110 replaces VCS 3.100. VCS 3.110 contains all of the features and fixes of VCS 3.100. The only difference is the removal of support for the RoHS-compliant backend loop switch (part number 30-10022-01). HP recommends that you upgrade to VCS 3.110 to realize the benefits included in this release. To upgrade to VCS 3.
Using FATA disk drives FATA drives are designed for lower duty cycle applications such as near online data replication for backup. These drives should not be used as a replacement for EVA’s high performance, standard duty cycle, Fibre Channel drives. Doing so could shorten the life of the drive. Avoiding slow creation of multiple related snapshots To minimize impact of snapshot and snapclone performance on system performance, transition cache on source virtual disks to write-through mode using HP Command View EVA before starting the snapshot or snapclone. The impact of creating one snapshot may be tolerable and may not require this action. However, creation of multiple snapshots of the same virtual disk requires this action.
