HP StorageWorks 3000/5000 Enterprise Virtual Array connectivity for VMware installation and reference guide (5697-7046, November 2007)
2 Testing connections to the
EVA3000/5000
This chapter describes how to test connections between the host server and the EVA3000/5000.
Creating and p
resenting virtual disks
To create and present additional virtual disks to the host server:
1. Create a virtual disk on the EVA using HP Command View EVA.
2. Specify values for the following parameters:
•
Virtual disk
name
•
Vraid level
•
Size
• Present to h
ost (the host you created in step1)
3. Verifythehostconnectiontypeasfollows:
• For VCS 3.x, ensure tha t the host connection type is set to Custom with a value of
000000002
200282E.
• For VCS 4.x, ensure that the host connection type is set to VMware.
4. Select a LUN number if you specified a LUN on the Virtual Disk Properties page.
Verifying virtual disks from the host
Use HP Command View EVA to verify that the host can detect the virtual disks you created. Enter the
following command:
# more /proc/scsi/scsi
The system displays all SCSI devices connected to the host server. An EVA3000/5000 LUN entry
looks similar to the following:
Host: scsi3 Channel: 00 ID: 00 Lun: 01
Vendor: HP Model: HSV210 Rev:
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Configuring virtual disks from the host server
After you create and verify the virtual disks on the EVA3000/5000, and then rescan or restart the host
serv er, y
ou must configure the new disk resources. See your h ost server documentation for instructions
on c on fi g
uring disk resources.
