HP StorageWorks 3000/5000 Enterprise Virtual Array connectivity for VMware installation and reference guide (5697-7046, November 2007)
For 3.0.x, use the VI client to set the multip a thing policy:
1. From the Hardware pane, select Storage Adapters under the Configuration tab.
2. Select any active storage adapter listed and then select a LUN listed in the b ottom pane.
3. Right-click and select Manage Paths. The Manage Paths window opens.
4. In the M anage Paths window, you can change the preferred path or the pa th policy.
NOTE:
These changes affect only the selected LUN. To change all of them, they must be done individually.
Spec ify ing DiskMaxLUN
The DiskMaxLUN parameter specifies the highest numbered LUN that can be scanned by the VMware
server. The default value is 8. If more than eight LUNs are presented, you must change the D iskMaxLUN
setting. To set DiskMaxLUN, select Options > Advanced Settings in the MUI, and then enter the
highest numbered LUN. Be sure to take into account the number of paths from the VMware server. A
maximum 128 disks a re supported.
The default for 3.0.x is 256 and the maximum supported is 256.
NOTE:
Increasing the DiskMaxLUN results in longer rescan times.
Verifying
connectivity
For 2.5.x,
you can verify configuration and connectivit y to the SAN by using the vmkmultipath -q
command.
• For each LUN, verify that the multipathing policy is set to MRU and that each path is marked on.If
any paths are marked dead or are not listed, check the cable connections and perform a rescan
on the app
ropriate FCA as shown in the following example:
cos-rescan.sh vmhba0
• If paths or LUNs are still missing, see the VMware or HP StorageWorks documentation for
troubleshooting information.
For 3.0.
x:
• To see all paths, issue the command esxcfg-mpath -l.
• To see the paths for disk vml.123456, issue the command:
esxcfg-
mpath -q -lun=vml12346
Multipathing
VMware operating software includes multipath s uppor t. No additional software is required to achieve
high-availability, multipath capability.
For 2.5.x detailed VMware multipathing information, see the description of the vmkmultipath command
in the ESX server administrator’s guide. For 3.0.x, see the description of the esxcfg-mpath command.
NOTE:
Secure Path and other MPIO software are not supported with VMware .
