HP StorageWorks 3000/5000 Enterprise Virtual Array connectivity for Tru64 UNIX installation and reference guide (5697-7045, November 2007)
1 Host connectivit y
This chapter provides host connectivity information and links to components you need to support your
operating system with an Enterprise Virtual Array storage system. It i s important that you proceed in the
following order:
• Install the Fibre Channel adapter
• Update the Alpha SRM and Fibre Channel HBA firmware
• Check the Tru64 UNIX driver version
• Update the Tru64 UNIX driver
• Add new FCAs on an existing Tru64 UNIX operating system
• Use the HP StorageWorks Command View EVA and Storage System Scripting Utility
• Work with clusters
Installing the Fibre Channel adapter
Supported Fibre Channel adapters (FCAs) must be installed in the host server to communicate with
the Enterp
rise Virtual Array .
NOTE:
Traditionally, the adapter used to connect the host server to the fabric is called a
host bus adapter
(HBA).
The server HBA used with the EVA3000/5000 is called a
Fibre Channel adapter
(FCA). You may also
see the ada
pter re ferred to as a
Fibre Channel host bus adapter
(FC HBA) in other related documents.
Follow the hardware installation rules and conventions for your server type. The FCA is shipped with its
own documentation for installation. Refer to that documentation for complete instructions.
You need the following items to begin:
• FCA boards and the installation instructions provided by the manufacturer
• The server hardware manual for instructions on installing adapters
• Tools to service your server
• FCA firmware
NOTE:
The FCA FW is available fro m the Alpha SRM FW update C D image, 6.9
or later. You c an download the latest FCA FW from the following website:
h
ttp://ftp.digital.com/pub/DEC/Alpha/firmware/index.html
The FCA board p lugs into a standard PCI slot in the host system. Refer to the hardware manual for
instructions on plugging in boards.
Updating the Alpha SRM and Fibre Channel HBA firm w are
To update the Alpha SRM and FC H BA firmware:
1. Boot the Alpha SRM FW update C D from the SRM prompt.
