HP StorageWorks 3000/5000 Enterprise Virtual Array connectivity for Sun Solaris installation and reference guide (5697-7044, November 2007)
2 Testing connections to the
EVA3000/5000
This chapter applies to EVAs running VCS3* only and describes how to test connections between the
host server and the EVA3000/5000.
Creating and p
resenting virtual disks
To create and present additional virtual disks to the host server:
1. Create a virtual disk on the EVA using HP Command View EVA.
2. Specify values for the following parameters:
•
Virtual dis
k name
•
Vraid level
•
Size
• Present to
host (the host you created in step1)
3. Ensure that the host connection type is set to Sun Solaris.
4. Select a LUN number if you spe cified a LUN on the Virtual Disk Properties page.
5. Run Secure
Path Manager (spmgr).
Check the f
ollowing web site for the latest instructions regarding Secure Path for S un Solaris using

Verifying virtual disks from the host
The host can recognize EVA devices either through a sys tem restart or by exec uting the format
command. The following is a sample output based on the HSV110 controller:

NOTE:
Because the virtual geometry of the presented volume varies with size, always select autoconfigure
asthedisktypefortheformat t ype command.
When you add new virtual disks to a running Solaris host, you need to use the Secure Path Mana gement
Tool (spmgr add comm a nd) for the Solaris host to recognize the virtual disks. Secure Path lets you
map new LUN s (virtual disks) to mount points. See the Secure Path for Sun Solaris documentation for
specific instructions.
If you are unable to access the virtual disk, use the following procedure:
