HP StorageWorks 3000/5000 Enterprise Virtual Array connectivity for IBM AIX installation and reference guide (5697-7040, November 2007)

1 Hos t connectivit y
This chapter provides host connectivity information and links to components you need to support your
operating system with an Enterprise Virtual Array storage system. It is impor tant that you proceed in the
following order:
Install the Fibre Channel adapter
Download Fibre Channel adapter rmware
Access IBM AIX utilities
Use the Storage System Scripting utility
Installing the Fibre Channel adapter
Supported Fibre Channel adapters (FCAs) must be installed in the host server to communicate with
the Enterpr
ise Virtual Array.
NOTE:
Traditionally, the adapter used to connect the host server to the fabric is called a
host bus adapter
(HBA).
The server HBA used with the EVA3000/5000 is called a
Fibre Channel adapter
(FCA). You may also
see the ada
pter referred to as a
Fibre Channel host bus adapter
(FC HBA) in other related documents.
Follow the hardware installation rules a nd conventions for your server type. The FCA is shipped with its
own documentation for installation. Refer to that documentation for complete instructions.
You need the following items to begin:
FCA boards and the installation instructions provided by the manufacturer
The server hardware manual for instructions on installing adapters
Tools to service your server
The FCA rmware (FW) is available from the Alpha SRM
FW update CD i mage, 6.8 or later. It is available online at
f
tp:// ftp.digital.com/pub/DEC/Alpha/rmware/index.html.
The FCA board plugs into a standard PCI slot in the host system. Refer to the hardware manual for
instructions on plugging in boards.
Downloading Fibre Channel adapter rmware
Supported FCAs must be installed in the host ser ver to com mu nicate with the EVA.
Since this is an IBM FCA, go to the IBM website to download the correct rmware at:
h
ttp://www14.software.ibm.com/webapp/set2/rmware/gjsn?mode=9&type=adapter.
Select the right FCA and follow the d irections given there.
