HP StorageWorks 3000/5000 Enterprise Virtual Array connectivity for HP-UX installation and reference guide (5697-7039, November 2007)

1 Host connectivity
This chapter provides host connectivity information and links to components you nee d to support your
operating system with an Enterprise Virtual Array storage system. It is important that you proceed in the
following order:
Install the Fibre Channel adapter
Download Fibre Channel adapter rmware
Set up multipathing
Use the Storage System Scripting utility
Work with clusters
Installing the Fibre Channel adapter
Supported F
ibre Channel adapters (FCAs) must b e installed in the host server to communicate with
the Enterprise Virtual Array.
NOTE:
Traditionally, the adapter used to connect the host server to the fabric is called a
host bus adapter
(HBA).
The server
HBA used with the EVA3000/5000 is called a
Fibre Channel adapter
(FCA). You may also
see the adapter referred to as a
Fibre Channel host bus adapter
(FC HBA) in other related documents.
Follow the hardware installation rules and conventions for your server type. The FCA is shipped with its
own documentation for installation. Refer to that documentation for complete instructions.
You need the following items to begin:
FCA boards and the installation instructions provided by the ma nufacturer
The server hardware manual for instructions on installing adapters
Tools to service your server
The FCA board plugs into a standard PCI slot in the host system. Refer to the hardware manual for
instructions on plugging in boards.
Downloading Fibre Channel adapter rmware
Supported FCAs must be installed in the host server to communicate with the EVA. If the FCA was recently
ordered directly from H P, skip the remainder of this section a nd go directly to Multipathing.
If the FCA is older or ordered from another supplier, the F CA onboard rmware may need to be updated
to work properly on the EVA. To discover the status of your FCAs, you must determine the following:
The device le assigned to the FCA
The curr ent version of EFI and PA_Risc rmware on the FCA
The current recommended and minimum rmware versions
1. Determine the FCA device le by issuing the following commands:
ll /dev/fcd* (for all FCAs except A 6795A)
ll /dev/td# (for A6795A only)
2. Once the device le is known, issue the following command:
fcmsutil /dev/fcd# vpd
