HP StorageWorks 3000/5000 Enterprise Virtual Array connectivity for HP-UX installation and reference guide (5697-7039, November 2007)

2 Testing connections to the
EVA3000/5000
This chapter describes how to test connections between the host server a nd the EVA3000/5000.
Adding a host n
amewithportWWPNs
Ahostnameand
its FCA WWPN must be added to the array before assigning a virtual LUN. Using the
recommended p
rogram HP Command View EVA, specify the following:
Host name
First FCA port WWPN assignment
Additional p
ort WWPNs, if necessary
Creating and presenting virtual disks
Present to the host you just created in Adding a host name with port WWPNs:
1. Create a virtual disk on the EVA using HP Command View EVA .
2. Specify values for the following parameters:
Virtual disk name
Vraid level
Size
Present to host (the host you created in step1)
3. Select a LUN number if you spe cied a LUN on the Virtual Disk Properties page.
4. Rescan the bus.
Verifying virtual disks from the host
This section describes how to verify that operating system hosts can access the virtual disk s created
withHPCommandViewEVA.ThehostcanrecognizeEVAdeviceseitherthroughasystemrestartor
by resca
nning the bus.
Scanning the bus
Use the following p rocedure to scan the bus and display information about the Enterprise Virtual Array
devices:
1. Start the rescan of the F CA by usingioscan. For example:
# ioscan -fnCdisk
All new virtual disks become visible to the host.
2. Assign device special les to the new virtual disks with insf.Forexample:
# insf -e
Uppercase “E” reassigns device special lestoalldevices.Lowercase“e”assignsdevicespecialles
only to the n ew devices—in this case, the virtual disks.
