Adding a calculation object
A calculation object is a symbolic object that is used to calculate metric power consumption data. After
you add and configure the calculation objects, the PUE chart appears on the HP Insight Environmental
Observer interface. There are multiple categories of calculation objects:
• PUE
• Power calculations
• Equipment status calculations
• Wired integration
• Inspectors
Calculation objects are added to a conceptual calculation group ("Creating calculation groups" on page
25).
Adding a PUE reporter
A PUE reporter object is a symbolic device that aggregates power consumption from the objects
connected to it, and the top level of a PUE data aggregation graph. You can place the PUE reporter
object anywhere on the floor plan. You must add calculation objects and define associations to the PUE
reporter to begin generating PUE data. The PUE Reporter object can have a single aggregation category
or multiple aggregation categories associated to it. The PUE calculation objects are typically associated to
one of the following categories:
• IT power—The amount of power used by the IT equipment in the data center.
• Cooling power—The amount of power used to cool the data center.
• Lighting and general electric power—The amount of power used by building lighting and other non-
IT related equipment in the data center.
• Power loss—The amount of energy lost through power conversion equipment such as UPS and PDU
devices.
Adding a PUE Reporter to your floor plan enables the PUE tab view in the Observer interface.
NOTE: You can only add one PUE Reporter object per data center.
To add a PUE reporter object:
1. Select Configurations>Calculations>PUE.
