Base station gateway requirements
HP Insight Environmental Device Manager uses base station gateways to communicate to the wireless sensor
network. For successful configuration, the following are required:
• A static IP address for the HP Insight Environmental Observer server
• A static IP address for each gateway. This connection must reside on the same subnet as the HP Insight
Environmental server
• 110 or 240 volt power supplied within 3 m (9.8 ft) of the gateway location

Email alert notifications (optional)
HP Insight Environmental software uses sensor readings to send email alert notifications. You must have
access to an SMTP enabled email server to use this feature. To configure HP Insight Environmental software
to send alert notifications, these minimum requirements must be met:
• Name or IP address of the SMTP mail server that sends alert notifications
• TCP/IP port on which the SMTP mail server sends outgoing messages
• User name of an email account that is configured for the system
• SMTP mail server authentication password, if needed
• SMTP mail server SSL encryption, if needed
NOTE: Configuration parameters are not required to receive an alert message. HP Insight
Environmental software does not allow incoming email messages.
Updating email options
An administrator can set the email options through the HP Insight Environmental Observer web interface.
To define the email options:
1. From the Administration menu, select Options. The Options window appears.
