HP Insight Environmental Observer Software Installation Guide Abstract This document describes the software installation requirements for all HP Insight Environmental systems. This document is intended for the person who installs, administers, and troubleshoots HP Insight Environmental systems.

Overview Components The HP Insight Environmental software includes the following components: • Application Server—Transport component between the data collection components and the presentation components • Observer—Visualization and monitoring web-based application • MySQL Database—Data storage application • Imaging Server—Two dimensional environmental views from three dimensional data • Device Manager—Subsystem of HP Insight Environmental software that manages devices • Configurator—Stand-alon
Client PC requirements Client PC Requirements Supported browsers Internet Explorer 7.0.x or later Mozilla Firefox 2.0.x or later Enable cookies in the browser Flash plug-in Adobe® Flash® Player 9.0.x or later Base station gateway requirements HP Insight Environmental Device Manager uses base station gateways to communicate to the wireless sensor network.
2. Select the Email tab. 3. Define the following options: o Server information o Logon information o User information 4. To test your new settings, select Test Email. An email is sent to the address defined in the User information. 5. Select OK to save and close, or select Cancel to close without saving. Server configuration IMPORTANT: You must manually restart the server after an operating system update to verify that each service or component is compatible with the new operating system.
HP recommends using a single-server configuration for optimum server performance. Before you install HP Insight Environmental software, be sure to configure your sever correctly. • Client PCs access the Observer web address. • Configuration–Single server configuration • o Gateway connects using Ethernet. o Server runs the database and web servers. Data-sensor nodes transmit data to the gateway.
Installation Prerequisites for installation Before you install HP Insight Environmental Observer, you must have the following software installed: IMPORTANT: Before you begin installation, be sure you login with administrative rights and disable any personal firewall and virus protection software. • JDK 6 Update 21 for Windows® 32 ("Installing JDK" on page 9) • MySQL 5.1.49 for Windows® 32 or 64 ("Installing MySQL" on page 11) • JBOSS 4.2.2.
3. Select Development Tools, and then click Next. 4. Click Next. 5. Click Finish.
Installation is complete. Installing MySQL You can either install 32-bit MySQL or 64-bit MySQL, depending on your operating system. If you have a Windows® 32-bit OS, you must install the 32-bit MySQL. If you have a Windows® 64-bit OS, you can install either the 32-bit or 64-bit MySQL, though HP recommends installing the 64-bit MySQL. The installation process is the same, after you have selected the correct version to install. 1. 2.
3. Select I accept the terms in the license agreement, and then click Next. 4. Select Typical, and then click Next.
5. Click Install.
6. After the MySQL Enterprise screen appears, click Next. 7. (Optional) Select Configure the MySQL Server now to launch the MySQL Configuration Wizard when the installation is complete. HP recommends configuring the MySQL server immediately after installation. For more information on configuring the MySQL server, see Configuring MySQL Server (on page 15).
8. Click Finish. Installation is complete. Configuring MySQL Server 1. To access the configuration wizard, go to Start>Programs>MySQL>MySQL Server 5.1>MySQL Server Instance Configuration Wizard.
2. After the configuration wizard appears, click Next. 3. Select Detailed Configuration, and the click Next.
4. Select Server Machine, and then click Next. 5. Select Transactional Database Only, and then click Next.
6. Click Next to install the InnoDB datafile using the default drive (C) and directory. If you do not want to use the default settings, then select another drive and directory. 7. Select Manual Setting. Set the number of concurrent connections to 15, and then click Next. 8.
o Enable Strict Mode 9. Click Next. 10. Select Standard Character Set, and then click Next. 11.
o Install As Windows Service o Include Bin Directory in Windows PATH 12. Click Next. 13. Select Modify Security Settings. Complete the steps to create a new root password, and then click Next. The default root password dbuser (case sensitive). CAUTION: HP recommends using the default root password dbuser (case sensitive). If you change the default password, be sure to note the password and save it in a safe location. If you lose the password, there are major functional consequences.

14. Click Execute to start the configuration. NOTE: If you receive any errors during installation, confirm that personal firewall and virus protection software is disabled. Be sure to completely remove any previous installation directories and retry the configuration.
15. Click Finish to close the configuration wizard. Installation is complete. If the MySQL Server file is locked by any software program, then the MySQL service stops. If MySQL Server is configured to restart when prompted with an error message, then the file might still be locked when the service restarts. A locked file prevents the system from logging data and does not allow users to log in to the HP Insight Environmental Observer web interface.
3. Inside the db folder, double-click the init_db.bat file. WARNING: If this script runs on an existing database all data and configuration settings are permanently lost. 4. After the command prompt window appears, enter Yes (case sensitive) to initialize the database. 5. At the end of the script, press any key to finish creating the database. Installing the JBOSS application container HP Insight Environmental Observer uses JBOSS as its runtime environment. To install JBOSS, unpack the jboss-4.2.2.GA.
1. On the software CD, select the jboss-4.2.2.GA.zip file. 2. Right-click the zip file, and then select Extract All. 3. Select the destination folder. The default directory is C:\Program Files. To install the programs to a different drive, replace C with the appropriate drive letter. Software installation IMPORTANT: Before you begin installation, be sure you login with administrative rights and disable any personal firewall and virus protection software.

HP Insight Environmental Device Manager ("Installing the Device Manager" on page 41) Installing the Application Server 1. On the software CD, double-click the hpieappsvr-setup.exe file. 2. If all installation prerequisites have not been met, then the prerequisites wizard appears. Click Next to continue to the list of required prerequisites. 3.
4. (Optional) If you have downloaded the prerequisite components, click Browse to navigate to the directory where the components are downloaded. 5. Click Run.
6. (Optional) If the prerequisites could not be downloaded, or an incorrect download directory was selected, the following error message appears. Click OK to clear the error. NOTE: You can download JDK 6 Update 11 using the third-party directory included on the software CD. 7. If the following screen appears, the prerequisites were not downloaded successfully. If necessary, click Back to reconfigure the prerequisite download directory.
8. Click Next. 9. To install the application server in the default installation folder (C), click Next.
10. Select I accept the terms in the License Agreement, and then click Next. 11. Click Install.
12. Click Finish. 13. To reboot the server, click Yes. Installing the Imaging Server The imaging server creates graphic images of the temperature, humidity, and pressure in your data center. To install the imaging server: 1. On the software CD, double-click the hpieimgsvr-setup.exe file.
2. After the setup wizard appears, click Next. 3. Read the license agreement carefully. Select I accept the terms in the License Agreement, and then click Next.
4. To install the imaging server in the default installation folder (C:), click Next. 5. Click Install.
6. Click Finish. Installation is complete. Installing Observer 1. On the software CD, double-click the hpieobsvr-setup.exe file.
2. After the setup wizard appears, click Next. 3. Select I accept the terms in the License Agreement, and then click Next. 4. Select one of the following options: o Click Next to install the software in the default (C) installation folder.
o 5. If you are not installing the software on the C drive, then select a location within the JBOSS directory. The default directory is C:\Program Files\jboss-4.2.2.GA\server\default\deploy. If JBOSS was installed in the Program Files folder located on the D drive, then install the console application to D:\Program Files\jboss-4.2.2.GA\server\default\deploy. Click Install.
6. Click Finish. Installation is complete. NOTE: You must have Adobe Flash player 9.x or later and the Adobe Flash plug-in installed on each PC to access the web console. To install updated versions of these applications, see the Adobe website (http://www.adobe.com).
Configurator software requirements Software Minimum requirement Operating system (32-bit) Windows® XP, Windows Vista®, Windows Server® 2003, or Windows Server® 2008 Supporting software Java™ Development Toolkit (version 6, update 11) Installing Configurator 1. On the software CD, double-click the hpieconfig-setup.exe file. 2. After the setup wizard appears, click Next.
3. Select I accept the terms in the License Agreement, and then click Next. 4. To install the console application in the default installation folder (C), click Next.
5. Click Install. 6. Click Finish. Installation is complete. Before HP Insight Environmental becomes operational, you must export a project from the Configurator onto the database server.
Installing the Device Manager 1. On the software CD, double-click the hpiedm-setup.exe file. 2. After the setup wizard appears, click Next.
3. Select I accept the terms in the License Agreement, and then click Next. 4. Select one of the following options: o If you do not have an ION power meter, select Typical, and then click Next. o If you have an ION power meter, proceed to Installing a Modbus plug-in component ("(Optional) Installing a Modbus plug-in component" on page 43).
5. Click Install. 6. Click Finish. Installation is complete. (Optional) Installing a Modbus plug-in component If you have one or more ION power meters configured for your data center using the HP Insight Environmental Configurator software and plan to monitor power data from the meters, you must install a Modbus plug-in component during the Device Manager installation.
1. After the setup wizard appears, click Next. 2. Read the license agreement carefully. Select I accept the terms in the License Agreement, and then click Next.
3. Select Custom, and then click Next. 4. Highlight Modbus plug-in.
5. Select the X to the left of Modbus plug in, select Will be installed on local hard drive from the dropdown menu, and then click Next. 6. Verify that the setup features and locations are correct, and then click Next.
7. Click Install. 8. Click Finish. Installation is complete. (Optional) Installing a Modbus gateway software component Install a Modbus gateway software component to make the wireless sensor data available through Modbus protocol to be used by third-party software such as BMS.
1. On the software CD, double-click the hpiembgw-setup.exe file. 2. After the setup wizard appears, click Next.
3. Select I accept the terms in the License Agreement, and then click Next. 4. Verify that the setup features and locations are correct, and then click Next.
5. Click Install. 6. Click Finish. Installation is complete. Installing SNMP Agent If you install an SNMP Agent software component, your wireless sensor data is available through an SNMP interface for a third-party software to retrieve data. For more information about SNMP data, see the cpqdceeo.mib file on the software CD.
1. On the software CD, select the hpiesnmpagent-setup file. 2. After the setup wizard appears, click Next.
3. Select I accept the terms in the license agreement, and then click Next. 4. Browse to the folder where you want SNMP Agent installed, and then click Next.
5. Click Install.
6. Click Finish. Installation is complete. Configuring the SNMP Agent NOTE: You must have installed the HP Insight Environmental software to your local C drive. 1. Locate the appropriate SNMPConf.xml file: o If you have a 32-bit OS: C:\Program Files\HP\HP Insight Environmental Software\HP Insight Environmental SNMP Agent\conf o If you have a 64-bit OS: C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\HP Insight Environmental Software\HP Insight Environmental SNMP Agent\conf 2. Select the .xml file.
3. At the appropriate time, enter the IP address of the HPIEO server.
Configuration Software component configuration After all HP Insight Environmental software has been installed, you must configure each component. Virus protection configuration Virus software locks files to scan them for patterns of bits. Before installation, configure any virus scanning programs to ignore the C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.1\data directory. The files in the directories under the data directory are binary data files and are not executed at any time.
o Right-click the service, and then select Properties. 3. Select the Recovery tab. 4. Select service failure options that you want. HP recommends the following settings: 5. o First failure: Restart the Service o Second failure: Restart the Service o Subsequent failures: Restart the Service o Reset fail count after: 0 days o Restart service after: 1 minute Click OK.
Alert processor configuration The alert processor evaluates sensor readings when they are received by the gateway node. The processor compares sensor readings to configured thresholds in the console application. If the processor triggers an alert, alert recipients are notified of the condition that prompted the alert. For more information on alert conditions, see the HP Insight Environmental Observer Software User Guide.
Configuring alert notification SNMP traps The SNMP trap service configuration file enables alert recipients to receive SNMP trap alert notifications The trap-conf.xml file is located in the C:\Program Files\jboss-4.2.2.GA\server\default\deploy directory (or the directory where jboss-4.2.2.GA is installed).
Restart the HP Insight Environmental Observer Application Server when configuration is complete. Configuring alert notification SNMP traps using the Observer interface You can configure SNMP alert notifications through the HP Insight Environmental Observer web interface. To define the SNMP options: 1. Select the Administration menu. 2. Select Options. The Options window appears. 3. Select the SNMP tab. 4.
5. To add new destinations, select Add. The New Destination window appears. a. Define the following options: — Remote IP — Remote Port — Write community — Read community b. To send a test SNMP trap, select Test Trap. c. 6. Select OK to save and close, or select Cancel to close without saving. To edit existing destinations, highlight the existing destination and select Edit. The Edit Destination window appears. a. Edit the existing option fields: b.
3. Click Control Panel>Performance and Maintenance>Administrative Tools>Services to view Windows services to be sure that the MySQL service is running on the database server. 4. Scroll down the list to be sure that the HP Insight Environmental services are running. 5. Connect the Ethernet gateways to the network to which the server is connected. 6. Plug in the Ethernet gateway and any supporting software. 7. Export the project from the HP Insight Environmental configuration software. 8.
Upgrading to a new version Upgrade overview To upgrade from a previous version to the current version, you must: • Uninstall the current software components and then install the updated software components • Upgrade the MySQL database • Update the schema in the Configurator software, and then export the new schema to the Observer software Removing previous version components You must remove all current software components and applications.
a. Select Start\HP Insight Environmental Software\HP Insight Environmental Device Manager\Uninstall. HP Insight Environmental Device Manager is uninstalled. b. Select Start\HP Insight Environmental Software\HP Insight Environmental Imaging Server\Uninstall. HP Insight Environmental Imaging Server is uninstalled. c. Select Start\HP Insight Environmental Software\HP Insight Environmental Configurator\Unistall HP Insight Environmental Configurator. HP Insight Environmental Configurator is uninstalled. d.
A verification window appears, prompting you to restart your system. e. Select Yes. The Windows® Shut Down window appears. f. Select Restart from the dropdown menu, and then select OK. The computer is restarted and HP Insight Environmental Application Server is uninstalled. 2. Uninstall the HP Insight Environmental Observer component. a. To uninstall on Windows Server® 2003: i. Select Start\Control Panel\Add or Remove Programs.
ii. Highlight HP Insight Environmental Observer, and then select Remove. b. To uninstall on Windows Server® 2008: i. Select Start\Control Panel\Program and Features. ii. Highlight HP Insight Environmental Observer, and then select Uninstall. HP Insight Environmental Observer is uninstalled. Uninstalling MySQL To uninstall MySQL on Windows Server® 2003: 1. Select Start\Control Panel\Add or Remove Programs.
2. Highlight MySQL Server 5.1, and then select Remove. A verification window appears. 3. Select Yes. My SQL Server 5.1 is uninstalled. To uninstall MySQL on Windows Server® 2008: 1. Select Start\Control Panel\Programs and Features. 2. Highlight MySQL Server 5.1, and then select Uninstall.
Installing new version components After all of the previous software component applications are successfully removed, install the new software component applications. NOTE: The following sections and screen shots are an example of installation, and, therefore, the version number might differ from the current software version number. You must adjust the specific instructions to your current software version number. Installing software components 1. Install the latest MySQL ("Installing MySQL" on page 11).
4. Select Start\Command Prompt. 5. After the command prompt appears, enter one of the following commands, depending on the version that you are updating from: o If you are updating from version 5.0.2, enter: update.bat root dbuser ./ 5.0.2 o If you are updating from version 5.0.
update.bat root dbuser ./ 5.0.3 The script runs and makes the necessary updates to the system database. After the script is finished, a successful completion message appears. 6. Press any key to continue. Updating the Configurator project file 1. Open the HP Insight Environmental Configurator application. 2. Update the project file.
a. Select File\Open Project. The Open file window appears. b. Browse to the saved project file (.dl), and then select Open. A warning message appears. c. Select OK.
d. Select File\Save As. The Save file window appears. e. Update the project file name, and then select Save. 3. Change the User Level.
a. Select Setup\Change User Level. The Change User Level window appears. b. From the Access Level dropdown menu, select Advanced. c. Enter the Access Code. The default access code is 1234. d. Select OK. 4. Export the new configuration schema. a. Select Export\Export Schema.
The Server login window appears. b. Enter the admin User Name and Password. The default password is admin. c. Select OK. A verification window appears if your schema export is successful.
Required available ports Ports required for external communication NOTE: Make sure that your external communication ports are not blocked by your Windows® firewall.
Troubleshooting HP Insight Environmental Observer software installation troubleshooting Issue Resolution What are the browser security settings Add the server to the intranet zone in the security setup area. For example, in Internet Explorer: for the PCs that access the HP Insight Environmental system? 1 Click Tools>Options>Security, and select the intranet zone icon. 2 Click the Sites button. 3 Add the IP address of the server to the list.
Issue Resolution Verify that the Modbus plug-in for Device Manager was installed No Modbus communication occurs between the ION power meters and the correctly.
