HP StorageWorks Enterprise Modular Library E-Series user guide (AH876-96001, October 2007)

Load ports and magazines
The load ports are mechanical d evices on the front of the library that enable you to import and export
tape cartridge
s to and from the library through removable magazines, or act as additional library
storage slots.
These two functions for a load por t cannot b e mixed; you must either designate an entire
load por t to be
import/export slots or storage slots. The base module contains a load port capable of
using one 5-ca
rtridge m agazine. The 8U expansion modules contain load ports capable of using two
5-cartridge magazines each.

Tape drives
The Ultrium tape drive is a high performance streaming tape drive that uses LTO technology. The library
can use Ultrium 460 (L T O 2), Ultrium 9 60 (L T O 3), and Ultrium 1840 (LTO4) tape drives.

The Ultrium 960 and Ultrium 1 840 include support for both rewriteable and Write-Once, Read-Many
(WORM) tape ca r tridges. WORM tape cartridges provide an enhanced level of data security
against a lteration of data because you cannot erase or overwrite them. To check whether your
backup or archive software application supports WORM tape cartridges, see the following web site:
h
ttp://www.hp.com/go/conn ect.
For optimum performance, always use a tape car tridge that m a tches the specications of your tape drive.
Table 3 on page 30 shows tape drive compatibility and tape capacity. You can nd other comparisons
between the Ultrium tape drives in Table 32 on page 105.
