In the R2 version of Hyper-V, Microsoft introduced a new concept of shared storage that can be used
to store data from virtual machines. This concept is called Cluster Shared Volume (CSV). Since CSV
needs to be accessible from all servers that are in the Hyper-V cluster, the virtual volume on which
CSV will be created must be exported to all these servers. In order to take advantage of Hyper-V
feature, it is recommended to always use CSV for virtual machine storage. The setup used for
developing this white paper is shown in the
Figure 41.

Licensing
For each Microsoft Hyper-V cluster environment it is required to have one On-line Extension for ONE
Windows / Linux system license. In addition, it is needed to have as many terabytes of Windows
Zero Downtime Backup licenses as the size of all CSVs, virtual volumes, which are going to be
protected.
