when to use cleaning cartridge
If the DLT1 drive’s “CAUTION” light is ON, then the drive’s thin film read/write head
may need cleaning.

Handle the cleaning cartridge carefully. The cleaning cartridge may be damaged by
dropping or by improper handling. The label should go only in the Front Slide Label
Slot of the cartridge. Do not place any type of label on any other part of the cartridge.
When not in use, store the DLT VS cleaning cartridge in its protective plastic “library”
case. Do not store or place the cleaning cartridge in direct sunlight. The DLT VS
cleaning cartridge has been designed for a 20-use life; additional usage may void
your warranty.

The DLT VS cleaning cartridge is designed for use with the HP SureStore DLT1 drive
and the HP SureStore DLT VS tape drive*.
inserting the cleaning cartridge into the drive
• Verify that the system power is turned on.
• If the “CAUTION” light (yellow) is ON steady, verify that no media is loaded in the
drive. If there is a data cartridge loaded in the drive push the eject button and wait
for the data cartridge to be ejected by the drive. The data cartridge can be removed
from the drive after it has been ejected.
• Insert the cleaning cartridge fully into the drive until a firm stop is encountered and
the cartridge is held in the drive. Insure that the label in the Front Slide Label Slot is
facing outward.
• The “READY” light (green) blinks as the cleaning cartridge loads or unloads.
• When the drive is being cleaned, the “READY” LED is on solid and the “CAUTION”
LED flashes.
• If the “CAUTION” light remains on then a cleaning cycle has NOT been performed.

• The cleaning cartridge automatically ejects after the cleaning cycle has completed.
• The cleaning cartridge can be removed from the drive after it has been ejected.
• After each cleaning cartridge use, follow the instructions on the Front Slide Label.
• Place the cleaning cartridge back into it’s “library” case for storage.
