HP StorageWorks X5500 Network Storage Gateway for Linux setup guide (AP811-96003, October 2009)

NOTE:
QLogic and Emulex cards should not be placed in the same fabric zone unless both HBA manufacturers
have approved this configuration.
Server requirements
NOTE:
To ensure that file times are consistent across the cluster, it is important that all cluster servers operate
with synchronized time-of-day clocks. An NTP server is one commonly used mechanism for
synchronizing system clocks.
When configuring servers, you should be aware of the following:
All servers in the cluster must be on the same subnet.
Servers running the Management Console must have a windowing environment installed. The
Management Console requires that the display be set to a minimum of 256 colors.
The minimum screen resolution for the Management Console is 1024x768.
HP X5500 Storage Gateway for Linux has been verified only with the English (United States) locale.
Network configuration requirements
Networks used with HP X5500 Storage Gateway for Linux should be configured as follows:
HP X5500 Storage Gateway for Linux supports only one IP address per subnet. This IP address
can exist on a bonded or teamed interface. If additional IP addresses are needed on the same
subnet, use HP X5500 Storage Gateway for Linux virtual hosts instead of adding additional IP
addresses directly to the NIC.
Assigning multiple IP addresses to the same NIC is supported only for VLAN tagging.
HP X5500 Storage Gateway for Linux does not support multiple NICs connected to the same
subnet without the use of bonding or teaming.
The network topology should be symmetrical; each server in the cluster should be connected to
the same set of networks.
The following flags must be set on each network interface: Broadcast, Multicast, Up, Running.
For HP storage, contact your HP storage specialist for information on additional recommended
NIC settings for optimal performance.
Cluster SAN configuration guidelines
Following are guidelines for configuring the cluster SAN to be used with HP X5500 Storage Gateway
for Linux:
For all Fibre Channel switches, it is best practice to place each HBA port and its storage ports in
a separate zone. No other initiator HBA port should be present in this zone.
