HP StorageWorks X5500 Network Storage Gateway for Linux setup guide (AP811-96003, October 2009)

discussed in step 9. Configure HP X5500 Storage Gateway for Linux for public versus private
network.
NOTE:
The IP address for these cards is not used directly by the clients. Rather, virtual IP addresses
are used and assigned later during the configuration of the HP X5500 Storage Gateway for
Linux software.
Network Address SetupIn the Detailed Settings box, select from the following options to
configure the settings:
Hostname & Name ServerThe hostname set here is the overall system hostname (for ex-
ample, the /bin/hostname command), and not the hostname associated with each NIC
via the /etc/hosts file. This implies you only need to set this once (not for each NIC). Names
for each NIC are set as part of step 9. Configure HP X5500 Storage Gateway for Linux
for public versus private network below. The nameserver is for DNS nameservers in the
environment.
NOTE:
After the server is configured, you will need to edit the /etc/hosts file. The operating
system places both localhost and the server name on the 127.0.0.1 entry in the /etc/
hosts file. For example:
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
HP X5500 Storage Gateway for Linux requires that the server name appear on a separate
line with its real IP address, as in the following example. Be sure to move the server name
to its own line in the /etc/hosts file on each server. HP recommends that you make
entries for both public and private IP addresses in the following format:
RoutingEnter a gateway (router) address.
You must set an IP address for an Internet gateway even if you are not using one. In that
instance, you can set the gateway IP to point to any of the NICs on the server.
AdvancedSelect from the following options to configure the advanced settings:
Hardware Details

VNC Remote AdministrationWith VNC you can display the X-Windows display running on
an HP X5500 Storage Gateway for Linux node to other machines such as a Microsoft Windows
box. This allows for complete remote management of all aspects of the system. Enable this
option to allow a VNC client to administrate the server on port 5901. The Java applet VNC
viewer can also be used by attaching to port 5801.
HP has verified the VNC Client from www.tightvnc.com functions correctly with HP X5500
Storage Gateway for Linux.
