Chapter 2: Overview 4
Upgrade Considerations
Several product changes in HP Clustered File System 3.6.0 affect the
upgrade procedure. Be sure to review the following information before
starting the upgrade.
Obtain a new license
Before starting the upgrade process, follow the steps in the new
Entitlement Certificate to obtain a license for the 3.6.0 code. There are no
temporary licenses embedded in the 3.6.0 code, so you must obtain a new
3.6.0 license. By following the steps in the Entitlement Certificate, you
will have all necessary components for the upgrade, which should allow
you to more quickly complete the upgrade process.
Upgrade All Servers As Quickly As Possible
It is important to upgrade all nodes in the cluster within a short time
frame. HP does not recommend running the cluster for an extended
period of time with only some of the nodes upgraded to 3.6.0. This release
introduces a new configuration data repository and a new logging facility
that do not become fully functional until all nodes are upgraded. If the
cluster is only partially upgraded, alerts raised by nodes running 3.6 will
be improperly logged by nodes running 3.4. Also, until the entire cluster
is upgraded, many services that are run on 3.6 nodes must be run as local
system administrator.
HP Clustered File System Changes
You should be aware of the following changes:
Concatenated dynamic volumes. If your cluster configuration
includes concatenated volumes, we recommend that you recreate
them after completing the HP Clustered File System upgrade. (The
volumes can continue to be concatenated when they are recreated.)
The volume disaster recovery feature cannot be used with a
concatenated dynamic volume that has not been recreated. Striped
dynamic volumes are automatically upgraded to use the new feature
during the 3.6 upgrade.
