HP StorageWorks Clustered Gateway (server/software bundle) 3.6.1 Windows Storage Server Edition upgrade guide (AG515-96012, September 2008)

Chapter 2: Upgrade procedure 4
Also, until the entire cluster is upgraded, many services that are run on
3.6.1 nodes must be run as local system administrator.
Use Another Machine to Store All Backups
As part of the upgrade process, you will have to back up configuration
details and other important files before initiating upgrade. The section
'Backup the Existing Cluster' specifies all the files that will have to be
backed up. These files will have to be restored at a later stage during the
upgrade. Make sure all files are backed up on another node in the
network. If you back up the files on the same node, you will lose the
backup during the upgrade process, since the upgrade procedure deletes
the existing logical drives and creates new ones.
HP Clustered File System Changes
You should be aware of the following changes:
Concatenated dynamic volumes. If your cluster configuration
includes concatenated volumes, we recommend that you re-create
them after completing the HP Clustered File System upgrade. (The
volumes can continue to be concatenated when they are re-created.)
The volume disaster recovery feature cannot be used with a
concatenated dynamic volume that has not been re-created. Striped
dynamic volumes are automatically upgraded to use the new feature
during the 3.6.1 upgrade.
Notifiers. The built-in notifiers provided with previous releases of HP
Clustered File System are no longer supported. Existing notifiers will
continue to function until the last server is upgraded. At that point,
the notifiers will be deleted from the configuration. If you are
currently using notifiers, be sure to back up your notifier scripts. After
the upgrade is complete, you will need to re-create the notifiers.
The stand-alone HP CFS Management Console provided with the 3.4
release cannot be used to access a node running 3.6.1. You will need to
upgrade the stand-alone console after the HP Clustered File System
upgrade. (The stand-alone HP CFS Management Console provided
with the 3.6.1 release is backward-compatible and can access nodes
running HP Clustered File System 3.4.)
