HP StorageWorks Clustered Gateway (server/software bundle) 3.6.0 Windows Storage Server Edition Upgrade Guide (5697-7456, April 2008)

Chapter 2: Upgrade procedure 6
Back Up the Existing Cluster
Before starting the upgrade, HP strongly recommends that you back up
the following:
The membership partitions. During the upgrade, the new mxds
datastore will be installed on the membership partitions. Although
unlikely, I/O errors during this step could potentially damage a
membership partition, necessitating restoring the original
membership partitions.
Your existing cluster configuration on each server. It is important to
preserve the original cluster configuration in case you need to back
out of the upgrade.
PSFS filesystems. You should have recent backups of all PSFS
filesystems for disaster recovery purposes.
Back Up the Membership Partitions
Use the mpdump command to back up the membership partitions. The
following command backs up the partitions to the default backup
location, %Program Files%\Hewlett-Packard\HP Clustered File
System\conf\MP.backup.prev on the drive where you installed HP
Clustered File System. The file will then be included when you back up
the cluster configuration.
mpdump -F
To back up the partitions to a different file, use this command:
mpdump -f <file>
Back Up the Cluster Configuration
The HP Clustered File System service should not be running when you
perform the backup. The default location for the cluster configuration
files is C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Clustered File System\conf on
the drive where you installed HP Clustered File System. Back up the
following from the conf directory:
The files directly under \conf
