HP StorageWorks Clustered File System (software-only) 3.6.1 Windows Storage Server Edition upgrade guide (T4422 - 96001, August 2008)
Chapter 2: Overview 9
• HP Clustered File System now uses single sign-on authentication. The
admin user, the mxpasswd file, and the mxpasswd command are now
obsolete.
• The minimum size for a membership partition is now 1GB. If your
existing membership partitions are too small to accommodate the new
mxds datastore, which is included in the membership partitions, an
alert will be generated after the upgrade to 3.6. Chapter 5 describes
how to replace the existing membership partitions.
Back Up the Existing Cluster
Before starting the upgrade, HP strongly recommends that you back up:
• The membership partitions. During the upgrade from 3.4.x to 3.6.1,
the mxds datastore will be installed on the membership partitions.
Although unlikely, I/O errors during this step could potentially
damage a membership partition, necessitating restoring the original
membership partitions. For upgrades from 3.6.0, HP recommends that
you back up the membership partitions to ensure that you have a
complete cluster backup.
• PSFS filesystems. You should have recent backups of all PSFS
filesystems for disaster recovery purposes.
During the upgrade procedure, you will also need to back up the existing
cluster configuration on each server.
Back Up the Membership Partitions
Use the mpdump command to back up the membership partitions. The
following command backs up the partitions to the default backup
location, %Program Files%\Hewlett-Packard\HP Clustered File
System\conf\MP.backup.prev on the drive where you installed HP
Clustered File System. The file will then be included when you back up
the cluster configuration.
mpdump -F
To back up the partitions to a different file, use this command:
mpdump -f <file>
