Enhancements and new features in HP Clustered File Sys tem
File Serving (FS) Option 3.6.0
HP Clustered File System FS Option 3.6.0 includes the follow ing new features.
• Role-based security. Using the role-based security feature provided with HP Clustered File System,
you can create a role to manage Virtual CIFS Servers, Virtual File Shares, and Matrix File Shares.
• Support for offline caching, which allows users to cache files and programs from Virtual File
Shares or Cluster File Shares to their local machines.
Implementation Changes in HP Clustered File System 3.6.0
The following implementation changes have been m ade in this release:
• Certain clus
ter configuration information is now stored in the new mxds datastore on the
membership partitions. The datastore is automatically backed up on a daily basis. However,
you may want to ba ck up the datastore manually after making configuration changes to ensure
that you alw
ays have an up-to-date backup.
• The minimum size for membership partitions has been increased to 1 GB.
• Networks can now be excluded from Clustered File System administrative traffic.
• Clustered
File System notifiers have been replaced by the new script event notifier. If you were
using notifiers in an earlier release of Clustered File System, you can configure the script event
notifier with your script and specify the events that should trigger the notifier.
• When amount pathisassignedtoaPSFS filesystem, Clustered File System can now create the
mount directory on each server that will m ount the filesystem.
• The admin
login, the mxpasswd file and the mxpasswd command are now obsolete. These
feature
s
have been replaced by the new single sign-on feature.
• The mxlogger c ommand has been replaced by the mx matrix log <message> command.
Upgrades to Clustered File System 3.6.0
It is important to upgrade all nodes in the cluster within a short time frame. We do not recommend
running the cluster for an extended period of time with only some of the nodes upgraded to 3.6.0. This
release introduces a new configuration da ta repository and a new logging facility that do n ot become
fully functional until all nodes are upgraded. If the cluster is only partially upgraded, alerts raised by
nodes running 3.6 will be improperly logged by nodes running 3.4. Also, until the entire cluster is
upgraded, ma ny services that are run on 3.6 nodes must be run as local system administrator.
Supported filesystem features
The P SFS filesystem supports a wide variety of NTFS filesystem interfaces and semantics. It smoothly
inte
grates into existing Windows environments, supporting all of the standard filesystem read, write,
open
,
and close calls and simplifying application deployment and scalability.
The P
SFS filesystem supports the following features of the NTFS filesystem:
• Byte-range locking. PSFS supports both local-node and cross-node byte-range locking.
• Cached and non-cached file acc ess.
• Cas
e-insensitive naming.
