HP StorageWorks Clustered File System 3.6.0 Windows Storage Server Edition (software-only) Release Notes (432086-004, February 2008)

mxcheck error me
ssage regarding conicting network addresses is unclear
[ 19168 ]
When mxcheck detects that multiple interfaces have the same network address, it reports the following:
Failure: Check
IP network and interface assignments (networks)
Interface
10006 shares a network address with interface 10008, Matrix Server requires
each interface to have a unique IP network address.
Clustered Fil
eSystem needs each server to have at most oneIPinterface perIPsubnetso thatitcan
continuously monitor each interface’s connectivity. On the server where the error is reported, multiple
interfaces have the same network address, meaning they are in the same IP subnet, not that they have
identical IP a
ddresses.
This can occur because interfaces are connected to the same I P subnet and get addresses in the same IP
subnet from DHCP. Either move some interfaces to different IP subnets, manually reassign a ddresses in
different IP subnets to the interfaces, or disable the extra interfaces.
This situation c an also occur because interfaces generated their own addresses automatically. These
will a ll be in the 169.254.0.0 (“zeroconf”) IP s ubnet. If you want to use these interfaces on an Ethernet
segment wit
h
no DHCP server (say, for the cluster’s private net works), manually assign addresses in
private I P s
ubnets (for example, 192.168.0.0) to them and/or disable the extra interfaces.
If multiple interfaces were being used for performance or availability, use bonding or teaming to make
the
interfaces look like a single lo gical interface to the operating system.
Double quotes in role names require other characters in name [19178]
When double quotes are included in the name of a role, the name should include a t least one letter or
digit for each double quote. For example, if there is one double quote in the name, there should also
be
at least one letter or digit in the name. If there are two double quotes, there should be at least two
letters or digits, and so on.
Custom setting for GcTrimLevel should be removed [19442]
In previous releases of HP Clustered File System, there have been recommendations to add a re gistry
setting for GcTrimLevel to restrict the amount of Windows pool m em ory consumed by the product. In
Clustered File System 3.6, a new tunable GcTrimMax has been added that caps the maximum number of
FCBs th
at the
product will cache (the default is 10,000). With the new settings, the defaults should be
suitab
le
for all but the most unusual workloads. HP advises customers to remove any custom setting of
GcTrimLevel when upgrading to Clustered File System 3.6.
Open issues and workarounds for HP Clustered File System
File Serving (FS) Option
The following issues affect the operation of FS Option.
File shares with duplicate names are problematic [4507]
If a Cluster File Share and a Virtual File Share are created with the same name, the automated monitors
can
become c onfused about which File Share they are m onitoring. This situation can cause unexpected
failover behavior or can cause a File Share to point to the wrong resource.
Work
around—Avoid creating Cluster File Shares and Virtual File Shares with the same name.
Disabling a server does not disable Cluster File Shares [5344]
When a server is disabled, the Cluster File Shares on that server remain active.
