HP StorageWorks Clustered File System 3.6.
Version: 3.6.0 Description The 3.6.0 release of HP StorageWorks Clustered File System 3.6.0 includes the following new features: • Role-based security—Allow users to create a role to manage Virtual CIFS Servers, Virtual File Shares, and Matrix File Shares • Support for offline caching—Allows users to cache files and programs from Virtual File Shares or Matrix File Shares to their local machines. Update recommendation Recommended Supersedes HP StorageWorks Clustered File System 3.4.
• New Clustered File System SNMP service. This service provides an SNMP extension agent and MIBs for retrieval of all cluster-wide state and status information. HP CFS Management Console features • New Installed Software viewer that lists all of the HP software currently installed on the system. • Progress task bar that displays progress indications when you initiate a task on the console. Enhancements and new features in HP Clustered File System File Serving (FS) Option 3.6.
• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Cached and non-cached file access. Case-insensitive naming. Case-sensitive naming. Content indexing. PSFS support is the same as the FAT filesystem. (See “Unsupported Features” for more information.) Directory Change Notification (DCN). PSFS supports both local-node and cross-node Change Notification. Disk quotas. Hidden, readonly, archive bits (and so on). Memory-mapped files. PSFS support is for the local node only; memory mapped file data is not coherent cluster-wide.
• The following Disk and File Management features provided in Windows 2003 R2: File Server Management, Microsoft Services for Network File System, File Server Resource Manager. • The Active Directory features provided in Windows 2003 R2. • If you restore data from an NTFS filesystem to a PSFS filesystem, you may see warnings such as the following. The warnings indicate that data belonging to an unsupported NTFS feature will be lost during the restore.
Windows applications You may notice the following differences from NTFS filesystems when running applications on PSFS filesystems: • Certain Windows applications disable NTFS-related features when run on a PSFS filesystem. For example, older versions of Robocopy do not copy security descriptors. (As a workaround, use Xcopy to copy the security descriptors.) Open issues and workarounds for HP Clustered File System The following open issues affect HP Clustered Gateway operations.
Management Console does not display filesystems created when HP Clustered Gateway was not running [3793] If the HP Clustered Gateway service is not running while a PSFS filesystem is created with the psfsformat -f command, the filesystem does not display on the HP Management Console. Workaround—Start the HP Clustered Gateway service before creating the filesystem.
server has the temporary address, it cannot rejoin the cluster, as HP Clustered Gateway expects the server to have the DHCP address. During this process, the cluster configuration might be destroyed on the rebooted server; however, the configuration can be restored by importing it from another node in the cluster (or by exporting the configuration from a good node to the rebooted server). To avoid this problem, use static IP addresses for the servers that will be in the cluster.
psfscheck incorrectly reports attribute errors [9326] When psfscheck is run on a filesystem created on HP Clustered Gateway 2.5 or earlier, it may report an error such as the following: Pass 3: Checking semantic tree directory 0 8334 has broken attribute 0x0 You can safely ignore this message. The attribute bit was not set in HP Clustered Gateway 2.5 and earlier releases. (If psfscheck is run in a mode other than read-only, it fixes the error.
Add or Remove Programs appears to hang [12924] On startup, Add or Remove Programs enumerates the contents of all top-level directories of mounted volumes. When the root or top-level directories on PSFS filesystems contain large numbers of files, Add or Remove Programs appears to hang during this step. Workaround—Do not overpopulate the root directory and the top-level directories of PSFS filesystems with large numbers of files. Instead, place the files in subdirectories.
The error messages are as follows: Not enough server storage is available to process this command. Not enough memory to complete transaction. Close some applications and retry. Event ID : 2011 Source : Srv Description: The Server’s configuration parameter "IRPStackSize" is too small for the server to use a local device. Please increase the value of this parameter. The following Microsoft Knowledge Base article explains how to resolve this problem: http://support.microsoft.
Export fails when multiple nodes are specified [18265] When the cluster configuration is exported to multiple nodes, the export may fail for a particular node or nodes because the FibreChannel switch is receiving too many requests. The following error is displayed, followed by a Java exception. com.polyserve.mxconfig.StorageException: mxsanconf: Cannot get switch information 10.11.20.241 failed The given host is not responding to ICMP pings. This may be an indication that: 1) The given host is incorrect.
Custom setting for GcTrimLevel should be removed [19442] In previous releases of HP Clustered File System, there have been recommendations to add a registry setting for GcTrimLevel to restrict the amount of Windows pool memory consumed by the product. In Clustered File System 3.6, a new tunable GcTrimMax has been added that caps the maximum number of FCBs that the product will cache (the default is 10,000). With the new settings, the defaults should be suitable for all but the most unusual workloads.
specify the individual servers that are to be included in the configuration. As an example, the following command removes node3 from a 4-node Virtual File Server: mx vfs update myVFS node1 node2 node4 Nodes crash after rebooting [12758] When FS Option for Windows is installed, nodes sometimes crash immediately after rebooting. This is a known Microsoft Windows problem. If you are experiencing crashes after rebooting servers, contact Microsoft and ask for the hotfix described in Knowledge Base article 908249.
Virtual CIFS shares are not available after Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 is installed [16049] This situation affects only the cluster node that is hosting the Virtual CIFS Server. Normal client activity is not affected. This is a known Microsoft Windows issue. Refer to the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article for more information. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926642 Environment issues and workarounds The following environment issues affect the operation of HP Clustered Gateway.
