HP StorageWorks Clustered File System 3.1.1 for Linux Installation Guide (May 2006)

Chapter 3: Configuration Best Practices 10
Ensure that no more than the supported number of paths to a LUN
exist.
Use zoning to restrict the number of paths a given node sees. HP
strongly recommends the use of zoning not only to address this issue,
but in general as a way to manage the LUN presentation to nodes in a
cluster.
Setting Driver Options
Note that QLogic HBA driver options are configured through the
/etc/opt/hpcfs/fc_pcitable file. Driver settings may be added/removed by
editing this file with a text editor. Using SanSurfer (now included with
Clustered Gateway) or other tools for driver configuration will not work
because they do not know about this file. You must restart (unload/load)
the driver to have these options take effect. They should be set before
starting the cluster.
Loading and Unloading
Note the driver is loaded and unloaded via the /etc/init.d/pmxs load and
/etc/init.d/pmxs unload commands. This command uses the
/etc/opt/hpcfs/fc_pcitable file to determine which driver to load and what
options to load it with. The modprobe command should not be used,
because it does not know about the fc_pcitable file.
SanSurfer
The QLogic San Surfer GUI can be used with HP Clustered File System.
However, due to the way driver options are managed in the fc_pcitable
file, SanSurfer cannot be used to configure the driver. It can be used in a
“read-only” mode to monitor the driver.
Emulex HBA Driver
While Emulex HBAs are supported, HP has focused all of its integration
and testing with the QLogic driver.
