File System (MSNFS)
This chapter discusses n etworking features in Microsoft Services for N etwork File System (MSNFS).
MSNFS Featur es
MSNFS is an update to the NFS components that were previo usly available in Services for UNIX 3.5.
MSNFS include
s the following new features:
Updated administration snap-in—MSN FS Administration
Active Directory Lookup—The Identity M anagement for UNIX Active Directory schema extension,
available in Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2, includes UNIX user identier (UID) and
group identi

Windows-to
-UNIX user ac count mappings directly from Active Directory. Identit y M a nagement for
UNIX simpli

Enhanced server performance—Microsoft Services for NFS includes a le lter driver, which
signicantly reduces common server le access latencies.
UNIX speci

Enhanced UNIX support—Microsoft Services for NFS now supports the following versions of UNIX:
•HewlettPackardHP-UXversion11i

UNIX Identit y Management
Identity Management for UNIX makes it easy to integrate users of Windows operating systems into
existing UNIX environments. It provides manageability components that simplify network adm inistration
and account management across both platforms.
With Identity Management for UNIX, the administrator can:
Manage user accounts and passwords on Windows and UNIX systems using Network Information
Service (NIS).
Automatically synchronize passwords between Windows and UNIX operating systems.
UNIX Identity Management consists of the following components:
Administration components
