SNMP
Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is an application layer protocol that facilitates the
exchange of management information between network devices. It is part of the Transmission Control
Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) protocol suite. SNMP enables network administrators to manage
network performance, find and solve network problems, and plan for network growth.
SOL
SOL stands for “Serial over LAN” and is the working name for the specification of IPMI interfaces for
redirecting baseboard serial controller traffic over an IPMI session via RMCP+ (Remote Management
Control Protocol+). This can be used to enable asynchronous serial-based OS and pre-OS
communication over a connection to the BMC.
WMI
Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) provides access to information about objects in a
managed environment. Through WMI and the WMI application programming interface (API),
applications can query for and make changes to static information in the Common Information Model
(CIM) repository and dynamic information maintained by the various types of providers.
