HP DC04 SAN Director Switch Hardware Reference Guide

Installing the replacement chassis
CAUTION: A fully-populated DC04 SAN Director (four FC8-64 port cards, 256 ports) weighs
approximately 68 kg (150 lb) and requires a hydraulic or assisted lift to install it.
If the DC04 SAN Director is installed in a cabinet, ensure that the cabinet is balanced and secured
mechanically and that the removal and installation procedure does not compromise cabinet stability.
1. If the chassis is in a cabinet, remove it from the cabinet, remove the rack mount hardware,
and save the hardware for use with the new chassis.
2. Place the chassis on a lift or on the shipping pallet provided with the original chassis.
3. Unpack the new chassis:
a. Cut the bands that encircle the packaging.
b. Remove the lid, kits, and foam from the top of the chassis.
c. Lift the cardboard box off the chassis and remove the plastic bag from around the chassis.
Save the packing materials for use when returning the old chassis.
d. If the chassis must be transported to the installation location, leave the chassis on top of
the plastic shipping tray.
4. Use a pallet jack or other assisted lift to transport the new chassis to the installation area.
Doorways must be wider than 91 cm (36 in) to accommodate the chassis on the pallet.
5. Use a lift to raise the chassis to the correct level. If installing the chassis in a cabinet, follow
the instructions provided by the rack kit manufacturer.
Installing components into the new chassis
Install the FRUs in the chassis.
CAUTION: Wear a grounded ESD strap when handling DC04 SAN Director components and
port blades. The chassis provides a grounding connection above the power connectors. Also, store
ESD-sensitive components in antistatic packaging.
1. Install the WWN bezel (logo plate) and WWN cards (see Installing the WWN bezel (logo
plate) and WWN card (page 82)).
2. Install the blower assemblies (see Installing a blower assembly (page 78)).
3. Install the power supplies or filler panels (see Installing a power supply (page 77)).
4. Install the control processor blades (CP8) (see Installing a control processor blade
(CP8) (page 73)).
5. Install the core switch blades (CR4S-8) (see Installing a core switch blade (page 76)).
6. Install the port blades or filler panels (see Installing a blade (page 68)).
7. Install the cable management fingers (see Installing a cable management finger
assembly (page 66)).
8. Connect the power cords to the power supplies and the power outlets.
9. Install the chassis door (see Installing the chassis door (page 65)).
10. Power on the DC04 SAN Director.
The DC04 SAN Director performs a POST. The POST takes a minimum of three minutes and
is complete when LED activity returns to standard state.
11. Verify that the DC04 SAN Director is powered on and POST is complete (all power LED
indicators on the port, control processor, and core switch blades are a steady green).
12. Verify that all components are functioning correctly by observing their LEDs. If the LEDs do not
indicate correct operation, reinstall the corresponding component.
