Reason and Prerequisites
The MaxDB "Zero-Downtime Backup" (ZDB) solution presented in the white paper has been tested on
a combination of MaxDB 7.6.03.10 and Data Protector V6.1 software on Windows 2003 32 bit OS
in conjunction with EVA snapshot functionality. This combination is supported by HP.
The MaxDB ZDB solution may also work on other operating systems, like HP-UX and Linux variants.
However, these combinations have not been tested and thus are not supported by HP.
Solution
HP published a technical whitepaper which describes the necessary steps to create split-mirror or
snapshot backups of a MaxDB database. It utilizes the "Zero Downtime Backup" (ZDB) technique of
Data Protector.
The direct URL to the Whitepaper is:

Alternatively, it can be accessed from HP website as follows:

, click "Storage Software", click "HP Data Protector
V6.1 Software", and click White Papers to see the white paper listed.
