HP Data Protector software integration with HP StorageWorks P4000 SAN (LeftHand) solutions
19
Solution requirements
Consider the following when planning a solution. These points apply only to Data Protector 6.11
when using HP P4000 VSS Hardware Provider Version 8.1.x.
• Source volumes must be presented to both application and backup servers.
The HP P4000 VSS Hardware Provider requires source volumes to be presented to both application
and backup servers in order to successfully perform a VSS transportable backup. This step needs to
be considered when designing and configuring the integration.
• Only Zero Downtime Backup to tape is available; no Instant Recovery.
Data Protector Zero Downtime Backup will mount the snapshot on the backup server and perform a
backup to tape. Afterwards, the snapshot is not kept and will be discarded. There is neither Zero
Downtime Backup to disk nor Instant Recovery available.
• Only HP P4000 snapshots are used for backup.
Only snapshots can be used for backup purposes. After the backup is finished, they are deleted.
• Licensing
– One On-line Backup extension license-to-use (LTU) is required on the application and backup
server.
– At least one Zero Downtime Backup extension license-to-use LTU (1TB/10xTB) is required based
on the number of terabytes (TB) of used disk space capacity on the HP P4000 protected by zero
downtime backup (ZDB).
For an up-to-date list of supported environments, operating systems and applications, see the Data
Protector VSS support matrix listed in Appendix D: For more information, on page 32.
