HP Data Protector A.06.11 Support for VMware vStorage
62
Action
When you specify the Datacenter option, select a specific datacenter and not All datacenters
to reduce the query time.
Problem
A backup session is not performed as specified in the backup specification
When you start a backup session, the backup is performed, but the options specified in the backup
specification are ignored – the default settings are used. This may happen if virtual machines have
migrated to different ESX(i) Server systems.
Action
Create a new backup specification for the migrated virtual machines and start a new backup
session.
Problem
A backup session fails due to a user-created snapshot
If you start a backup session and a user-created snapshot is detected on a virtual machine
snapshot tree, the session fails with a message similar to the following:
[Critical] From: OB2BAR_VEAgent@esx5.bel.company.com "/datacenter"
Time: 12/8/2010 7:59:59 AM
Virtual Machine aVM: User snapshot found. Backup cannot
continue ...
Due to a VMware vStorage limitation, a virtual machine cannot be backed up if a user-created
snapshot exists.
Action
Remove all user-created snapshots and restart the backup session.
Problem
Virtual machines cannot be backed up in parallel
During a backup session, virtual machines are backed up sequentially.
Action
To back up virtual machines in parallel, create a separate backup specification for each virtual
machine and start the backup sessions in parallel.
Problem
A virtual machine disk is deleted
Suppose you back up a virtual machine and, later in time, you add another disk to the virtual
machine. When you restore the virtual machine, the newly-added disk is deleted.
Action
Whenever a new disk is added to the virtual machine, run a full backup of the virtual machine.
Problem
Login credentials for a VMware system cannot be updated
When you try to update login credentials for a VMware system (vCenter Server or ESX(i) Server
system) either in the Backup context (Configure Virtual Environment dialog box) or in the Client
