Backup concepts

Operational method

Data Protector VMware vStorage integration provides the following new backup method:

vStorage Image

This method can be used to back up and restore the following VMware objects:

Virtual machines

Virtual machine disks

Virtual machine templates

This is a snapshot-based backup method that can be used to backup virtual machines while

powered off (offline backup) or actively used (online backup).

It supports interactive and scheduled Data Protector backups of the following types:

Full

Incremental

Differential

Data Protector Cell Manager

The Data Protector Cell Manager can be installed on a virtual machine, vCenter Server system,

backup host, or a separate system outside the virtual environment.
