HP Data Protector A.06.11 Support for VMware vStorage

63
context (Storage appliance page) of the Data Protector GUI, new values are not saved to the
cell_info file - the credentials are not updated.
The same problem occurs when you create a new backup specification; the credentials that you
specify in the Configure Virtual Environment dialog box are not saved to the cell_info file. As a
result, when you need to update a user’s password, backup sessions start to fail.
This problem occurs only if you have a non-Cell Manager backup host.
Action
Workaround A: Delete the VMware system from the Data Protector Cell and re-import it with new
login credentials.
Workaround B: Install the Data Protector Virtual Environment Integration component on
the Cell Manager and use the Cell Manager as a backup host (that is, when you create a backup
specification, select the Cell Manager for the backup host). In such configurations, it is possible to
update the credentials through the dialog boxes.
Problem
SAN transportation mode is not available if the backup host is a virtual machine
If the backup host is a virtual machine, SAN transportation mode is not supported. If you select
SAN in the Transportation mode option and start a backup session, Hotadd transportation
mode is used instead. If the storage volumes on which virtual machine files reside are not
presented to the backup host, NBD (LAN) transportation mode is used. Note that the order in
which VMware tries to use modes is: SAN, Hotadd, NBD (LAN).
Action
To use SAN transportation mode, the backup host must be a physical system which has access to
a FibreChannel or iSCSI SAN that stores the virtual machine disks to be backed up.
For details on various transportation modes, see Transportation modes.
Problem
A virtual machine backup with quiescence enabled fails
When you try to back up a Windows Server 2008 virtual machine for which the Use
quiescence snapshots option is specified, the backup session fails with a message similar to
